Being part of the Silicon Sands steering group has given me a front-row seat to the conversations shaping that future - bringing together businesses, educators, and leaders who all want to see this region thrive.

70% of digital transformation projects fail 👀

That's not a new statistic, but we often fail to honestly discuss why.

In our experience, it's rarely the technology. It's that the project was never truly fit for purpose from the start.

The brief was vague.
The problem wasn't properly understood.
The people who'd be using it weren't involved early enough.

And so the build went ahead, and something was created that didn't quite solve the right thing 😟

We've seen this with bespoke software for years!!

A company invests in a product.

Real developers.
Real craft.
Real time.

And somewhere between the idea and the launch, the connection to the actual business need gets lost.

The product lands, but it doesn't land right.

Or it doesn't land at all... shelved before it ever reached the people it was meant for.

That problem is getting faster and louder now, because AI has made it easier than ever to start building.

Yet, it hasn't made it any easier to build the right thing 🥲 If anything, it's accelerating the gap.

More products are being created, and more of them are being built without the guidance, strategy, or clarity of purpose that makes software actually work in the real world.

The graveyard of unshipped, underperforming software isn't new. But it's filling up faster!!

At Code Galaxy, we build bespoke software and our own products.

The question we always start with isn't "what do you want to build?" It's "what problem are we actually solving, and for who?"

This week, the team at Code Galaxy will be judging at the Blackpool and The Fylde College Apprenticeship Awards 🥹🙌

It’s a great opportunity to support the celebration of students and the work they’ve put in to get to this stage. Apprenticeships aren’t easy - they require commitment, consistency, and the ability to apply learning in real-world environments.

What stands out is the impact these individuals are already making, not just in their studies, but in the businesses and industries they’re part of.

We’re looking forward to reviewing the entries, understanding the journeys behind them, and recognising the achievements that deserve to be highlighted.
