We’re spending today at the AI Growth Zone conference and it’s great to see Blyth and Northumberland being talked about on the national stage for AI and digital innovation.

Really insightful sessions so far — from Lord Patrick Vallance on putting Northumberland first in the AI future, to Professor Kyle Montague exploring responsible, real-world uses of AI that actually benefit communities.

Brilliant to see local champions like Alan Fergusson OBE and Ian Lavery MP driving this forward too.

As a Northumberland digital business working with councils, community groups and SMEs every day, it’s exciting to see our region stepping up as a leader — not a follower — in tech and innovation.

𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐡

Blyth Town Council is delighted to announce that councillors have agreed to begin a Neighbourhood Plan within the local community.

The plan to be created alongside Northumberland County Council (NCC) will involve engaging the residents of Blyth to ensure that future planning applications will take into account their wishes on aspects such as services, education, housing, environment, and heritage.

The Council will seek input from residents, community groups, businesses, and schools to create a vision that will become a set of policies used by NCC when considering future planning.

On completion - providing it meets basic government requirements - the public will be invited to vote on its adoption for all planning applications in the area.

If more than 50% of those voting approve the plan, it will become part of Northumberland's statutory Plan for Blyth. After that, any decisions on whether to grant or deny planning permission must consider factors highlighted by the public.

In response, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐨𝐧, said: "A neighbourhood plan will give the community a voice to help shape our town and ensure that future planning considers the public's opinion on aspects such as local services, schools, housing, and cultural heritage."

𝐉𝐨𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐬, 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐤, 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝, "We are constantly looking at ways to engage with the residents of Blyth on how their town should develop. The Council is therefore extremely pleased to begin this process involving the people of Blyth in its future."

🥚🥚 The annual Easter Egg hunt is back at Ridley Park, with the ever-popular decorated egg, decorated Easter bonnets and hat competitions. The event also includes some fabulous street theatre and a craft fair. A free event for all the family.

We look forward to seeing you all at Blyth Town Council's Mad Hatter's Tea Party on the 16th of April - 11am until 3pm. 🥚🐣🐥
