New equipment. Same commitment to quality.

XG has completed the installation of two new flatbed cutters, replacing existing machines as part of our ongoing investment in production.

Flatbed cutting is a key stage in our in-house finishing process, helping ensure graphics are cut accurately, fit correctly and meet the standards our customers expect.

It may be one of the less visible parts of production, but it plays an important role in the final quality, fit and presentation of printed graphics, including display graphics, boards, panels, floor graphics and shaped work.

By continuing to invest in our production capability, we are maintaining the quality, consistency and reliability that support every project we produce.

With both new machines now in place, this investment further strengthens our in-house finishing operation and supports continued control across the work we produce.

Event Overlay is about far more than branding.

The most successful events don't just look the part; they guide visitors, define spaces and create an environment that's easy to navigate.

From entrance graphics and wayfinding to scrims, fence banners and branded structures, event overlay helps transform a venue into a functional, brand-ready space.

At XG, we support organisers, agencies and contractors with large-format, superwide and fabric print, delivering graphics that perform from setup through to event day.

Unnecessary crop marks can slow down large-format artwork checks and can actually cause production problems.

Crop marks are an important part of many commercial print workflows, but they are often not needed for large-format graphics.

In our latest blog post, we explain why large-format production differs from traditional print, how unnecessary crop marks can lead to additional artwork checks, and what best practices look like when preparing artwork for production.

The blog also covers when crop marks may still be required, why finished size matters, and how clean PDF files help reduce avoidable pre-production queries.

For anyone supplying artwork for exhibitions, signage, retail displays or event graphics, this is a useful guide to a common artwork issue.

Branded event shelters bring flexibilty to your environment.

A gazebo might work perfectly for a compact exhibition setup, while inflatable tents create larger activation areas, and star tents help define open hospitality environments at festivals and outdoor events.

Portable and reusable, these structures can support multiple campaigns and events throughout their lifespan across a wide range of applications.

Event Branding needs to do more than look good.

The most effective event spaces are built around products that provide shelter, seating, shade, visibility and wayfinding.

XG's range of branded event products like, gazebos, inflatable tents, feather flags, parasols and deckchairs all play a role in shaping how people move through and interact with a space, helping organisers create outdoor environments that are both practical and engaging.

In our latest blog, we explore how functional event products help create outdoor spaces that people actually want to spend time in.

Outdoor branding works best when it is simple, practical, and built for real event environments.

At festivals, hospitality spaces, and seasonal activations, audiences are constantly moving between moments of activity and downtime. The brands that stay visible throughout those moments are usually the ones integrated into the environment itself.

Branded deckchairs and parasols create practical, high-impact outdoor branding solutions that combine comfort, visibility and campaign flexibility. Branded deckchairs provide seating with interchangeable printed slings, making it easy to refresh campaigns without replacing the full system. Custom printed parasols deliver strong brand visibility while providing essential shade across busy outdoor spaces.

Hardware and print supplied by XG, ensures that that everything is printed consistently, and is built for repeated event use.

Resolution discussions in Large-format production often start with the wrong benchmark.

The 300 dpi rule from litho printing continues to shape expectations, even when dealing with 4m exhibition walls, 8m fabric backdrops, or pitch flags viewed from the terraces. In practice, DPI in Large Format digital print behaves very differently.

The variable that governs perceived sharpness is not the headline DPI number. It is the viewing distance.

A 5m wall graphic viewed from three metres away does not require the same pixel density as a brochure read at arm’s length. At scale, the human eye blends detail. 72 dpi at the final output size is often sufficient, and in many outdoor environments, a lower effective resolution performs just as well. However, close-view exhibition graphics or artwork containing fine text will often benefit from a higher effective resolution, commonly around 150dpi, particularly when paired with modern high-quality print systems

This is where commercial friction appears.

Files are supplied at 300dpi at full size, producing multi-gigabyte artwork that slows transfer and RIP processing without improving visual output. Conversely, small web images are scaled dramatically, assuming Photoshop can “add resolution.” It cannot. Upscaling increases pixel count mathematically. It does not generate photographic detail.

Where experience matters is in evaluating proportional quality.

The most reliable assessment method is simple. Set the artwork to final dimensions and view it at 100% zoom. That reveals true pixel structure. Judging at arbitrary zoom levels or “fit to screen” hides problems.

Another common variable is noise. Compression artefacts and over-sharpening often degrade Large Format output more visibly than modest DPI reduction. A clean 60 dpi file can outperform a noisy 120 dpi file once printed at scale.

Material also influences perception. Textile softens the detail slightly. Rigid substrates hold edge definition differently. UV printing behaves differently from dye sub in tonal transitions. These are production realities, not theoretical ones.

File size itself is frequently misunderstood. A 2GB Photoshop document does not guarantee quality. It may simply contain enlarged low-resolution assets layered repeatedly. Large files increase processing risk without necessarily improving output.

Another frequent misunderstanding is equating megabytes with print size. A 3MB image does not indicate how large it can be printed. Pixel dimensions determine scale. A 3000-pixel-wide image will produce just over 1 metre at 72 ppi, regardless of whether the file is 3 MB or 12 MB. Megabytes describe storage. Megapixels determine usable output size.

This is typically where delays occur. Artwork enters pre-press, resolution issues are identified, expectations must be reset, and schedules are compressed.

The solution is contextual judgment rather than rule-based specification.

Evaluate resolution at final scale. Consider viewing distance. Assess subject complexity. Separate photographic imagery from flat vector colour where possible, as even matching CMYK values reproduces differently due to ink behaviour.

Large-format production rewards proportional thinking. When DPI is understood in context rather than chased as a number, workflow becomes smoother and output meets expectations without unnecessary data weight.

Resolution is not a fixed standard. It is a relationship between scale, environment and perception.
