With the Winter Olympics well underway, I'm sure you're all glued to the TV watching Team GB compete in the Curling (I know I am!).

We thought we'd take a look back at a previous project we did for Dumfries Curling.

- Online Booking & Management Portal
- Integrated Touch Screen Till System
- Digital Scoreboards

We also created an integrated streaming feed, allowing the real time scores to be overlaid on top of broadcats streams, assisting in the online broadcast of the Scottish Curling Championships and World Championship Qualifying sessions, held at Dumfries.

Our latest case study is now live - a custom CRM system for a local Cumbrian charity.

ACTion previously used an Access database, which served them well pre-covid when everyone was in the same room. They would simply shout out "using the database" so all the other users knew they were in the DB, and didnt overwrite their work.

But due to COVID, and afterwards, they switched exclusively to home working. Communication became a pain.

Additionally, the on-premesis serve rwas becoming outdated and need replacing. They decided to save money and switch to a cloud based system, built specifically for their needs.

This saved them the cost of buying a new PC, plus the cost of running and supporting this each month. They also received a prodcutivity boost by switching to a system that was easier to use, and better tailored to what they were trying to do.

Case Study: Meals On Wheels

We were approached last year by local charity Meals On Wheels, to develop a system to help them manage their workload more efficiently. While they had an existing system in place that tracked the orders, it didnt do what they needed, and instead their walls were covered with post-its containing the missing information they needed to remember for each customer.

Our system allows them to track all their active customers and store their contact details, primary.secondary contact and dietry requirements.

Staff can then issue them a menu each week, and record their meal choices in the system, Dietry requirements are matched against each dish, and any conflicts highlighted (e.g dish contains meat and customer is vegitarian).

Reports can then quickly be printed to see what is to be produced each day by the kitchen, based on the orders placed.

Finally, routes are created and delivery instructions printed for the drivers. Routes can be viewed on a map and edited by dragging + dropping to re-order drops to create the optimal routing.

Sadly, this post was supposed to be telling you all how our work was featured live on the BBC. But it was pulled at the last minute :-(

As part of our contract with Curling Stadium Europe, we created a whole load of interactive graphics tied in to our digital scoring system to support their efforts to live stream the Scottish Curling Championships over the last week.

It was due to be broadcast on the BBC over the weekend.. but despite two test broadcasts which all went fine, the final broadcast was cancelled due to "overly prominent adverts in the stadium".

Damn. I was looking forward to announcing to everyone how our work had been broadcast live on the BBC.

It still got broadcast on the internet though... and was well received :-)
