This Macbook came in for a new battery. It was also reported that it would often slow down and freeze. With this amount of dust blocking the heatsink I'm not surprised. When CPUs get too hot they first throttle back their speed to try to reduce the temperature. If that doesn't work and the temperature increases further they can go into thermal shutdown to prevent damage.

I have been working on a Lenovo all-in--one pc that came in performing really slowly. The fans were very loud and the hard drive was very hot. After taking it apart you could see why, the fan airflow was almost completely blocked. After cleaning the fans and cloning the the half cooked hard drive onto an SSD the PC is performing better than ever.

This laptop was in for a RAM and SSD upgrade. I always check the fan/heatsink while the laptop is apart. This is why😃

Vindictive scammers used to lock people out of their computers using a little know Microsoft "feature" the Syskey password. Microsoft eventually removed this from Windows 10 as it was being misused. Scammers are now using a free utility called Lock My PC to lock their victims' computers. Fortunately there is a way to bypass the program.

A while ago I recovered some files from a friend's failing computer. It was built by their son 8 or 9 years ago as a gaming pc. It was very dusty, had wires going everywhere and a large number of fans. Frankly it was horrible to work on and also extremely heavy. After removing the motherboard and graphics card I gave them a good clean and then tested them. They worked fine on my test bed and I decided they were worth keeping going. This week I transferred all the components from the old case to a new Thermaltake midi-tower case. I think it look a lot tidier and it runs very nicely with only 2 cases fans. And yes it does have all the same components except a few less fans and a fan controller that was no longer needed. The performance is also pretty good.
