I don’t know about you…

But my head can do funny things, like making me think I can’t do something.

I remember so vividly being at uni and thinking “I’m absolutely TERRIBLE at drawing”, so convinced myself that thought must be true.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised I have a style to my drawing, I’m a far cry from realism and fine art… But what I can do is convey ideas, messages and form in a graphic way.

This project was so fun, and one I would’ve shied away from 10 years ago. But everytime I see the van I feel really proud of my growth.

So, this is your sign to push yourself to do the things you’ve told yourself you’re no good at- maybe you need to just reframe the way you look at it?

One of my favourite parts of branding has never actually been handing over the finished files.

It’s the bit before that.

That moment when I present the first concepts to a client and we start talking about what they could become. When something clicks that they hadn’t quite been able to articulate themselves. Or an idea they hadn’t considered suddenly feels completely right.

There is a real sense of discovery in building a brand this way.

And I wonder if that’s something we’re overlooking in the rush to make everything quicker and easier with AI.

Of course, efficiency has value. I use AI myself precisely because there are things it allows me to do faster and better.

But creativity isn’t always a process we should be trying to shorten.

Sometimes the conversations, the exploration, the unexpected ideas and even the things we decide not to pursue are what lead us somewhere much more interesting.

And when you’ve been part of that process, you understand your brand differently too. You know why it looks the way it does. You understand the thinking behind it. You feel invested in it and excited to use it.

There’s pride in seeing something created around your business that feels authentically yours.

I don’t think we should underestimate the value of that.

This one has been a long time in the making, so it’s lovely to finally share it.

Watching Memory Share Box grow into a brand, a product and something that’s now ready to make its way into the world has been such a rewarding journey to be part of.

One of the things I love most about working with existing clients is that we’ve already built that trust. I understand how they think, what matters to them and how they like to work, which means I can jump straight into creating something that genuinely reflects the business they’re building.

This project started with developing the brand identity, but it quickly became so much more than that. Together we shaped the tone of voice, evolved the packaging alongside product development, worked closely with the website developer to ensure the digital experience reflected the brand, produced the artwork for the trademarking application, and navigated all of the decisions that come with bringing a new business to life.

For me, that’s what branding is really about.

It’s not handing over a logo and wishing someone luck. It’s becoming part of the journey. Asking the right questions, challenging ideas where needed, solving problems together and making sure every touchpoint feels connected.

Of course, that only happens because of clients like this. Clients who invite me into the process, value strategic thinking and see the benefit of having someone alongside them who can take ownership of the brand, so they can focus on building the business itself. I don’t take that trust for granted, and it’s something I’m incredibly grateful for.

From idea to market, it’s been a privilege to help bring Memory Share Box to life, and I can’t wait to watch this next chapter unfold.

AI is everywhere.

Over the next few weeks, I want to explore what AI is changing, what it can’t replace, and why I think that matters to your brand.

Whether we like it or not, it’s here. And if I’m honest, I think it needs to be embraced.

I use AI almost every day. It helps me explore ideas, develop my writing, organise my thinking and work more efficiently.

But recently, I’ve noticed more businesses turning to AI to create their branding.

Within a few minutes, they have a logo, maybe a colour palette and even some social media graphics. For some, it looks good enough, so it’s easy to assume the branding is finished.

But is it?

The more I use AI, the more convinced I become that the real value in branding has always been the thinking that comes before the design. Let’s talk more on that next time.

Part Two: AI built your logo. But that isn’t a brand.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

Last week I met some distant family from Canada for the first time. There were some strong similarities between our lives. We’re both graphic designers, both run our own businesses, and we’re both mothers to powerful little(ish) humans.

My dad also brought along a family photo album I’d never seen before. It was so fun to look through a history linked to mine, although filled with people I’d never met (apart from my nan).

Most of the photographs date back to around the 1920s, but what stood out to me most was the women.

There was a boldness about them. (My great-grandmother Aggie looks like she was an absolute vibe!) They were clearly having a wonderful time together. Laughing, travelling and looking completely unafraid to take up space. It felt like I was looking at a generation of women embracing new freedoms and beginning to reshape what womanhood could look like.

Looking back at me, I could feel bravery, confidence and personality.

It made me think...

What if every family has a brand?

Looking through these photos, ours seems to have been built on women who weren’t afraid to be seen, to laugh loudly and to enjoy life.

And I can see myself having inherited a little of that too.

Kinda cool…

When your little idea starts looking like a real business.

When your brand finally feels like you.

When your ideal customers start noticing.

Helping make that happen never gets old.

If you’re thinking about a new brand identity, it’d be kinda cool to hear from you. 😉

Every now and then, a message lands in your inbox that reminds you why you do what you do...

This one came from the gorgeous Nikki Ward. We worked on her brand quite a while ago now, developing her brand identity before she joined my Getting Canva Confident workshop. Fast forward to today and she’s building her website, business cards and everything else that comes with launching her business.

Her message wasn’t about how the branding looked (although it’s still very much a vibe! 😏). It was about how easy it had made everything that followed.

“Everything is there. All my colours, all my fonts... bish, bash, bosh, done.”

That’s exactly what good branding should do. Yes, it should look beautiful, but more importantly it should give you the clarity, consistency and confidence to build your business without having to make every decision from scratch.

Months, sometimes even years later, that’s when you really see the value of investing in getting the foundations right.

Messages like this honestly mean the world. Thank you, lovely. ❤️ Go give .balanced.fox a follow if you’re interested in nutritional therapy and building a healthy, back-to-basics lifestyle.

(P.S. What an absolute tune is this?! It’s been waking me up at night and convincing me I could do the dance too… anyone else? 😂)

A brilliant evening with Jake Andrew, painting freely and responding to music in whatever way we each interpreted it.

I really enjoyed the freedom of simply putting paint onto canvas with no agenda or expectation. Also didn’t think I could fill a canvas this big in an hour and a half, but it turns out I can 🤪 mixed media was great fun- thoroughly enjoyed the spray paint!

Joining the designer trend and pulling together some of my favourite logos/submarks from over the years…

Seeing them all stripped back to monochrome was actually a really good reminder that strong branding should still hold up without colour doing all the work.

What’s your favourite?? (Ps soz if yours isn’t here, I could’ve genuinely carried on for another 10 slides!)

HookFest deserves a post directly from me, and it’s the kind of event Charlie and I needed, so we created it.
