Hello all my Tech Shack followers!
I would like to give some tips on Cyber Security, the further we move into the digital age, the more risks we face with constant data breaches, device vulnerabilities, and social engineering.
Staying safe online is becoming more of a vital necessity the more we rely on online banking & social media, so here is some tips I have written up. I will be offering Cyber Awareness courses soon once I have ironed out the crucial information needed.
1. Email scams! They can often look genuine, and can even pose to have sent from a known email address! Keep an eye out for errors in spelling, or an unusual style of writing. If they request any personal information such as passwords or banking details, do not respond. Genuine organizations will not ask for this.
2. Fake websites! Be weary that the URL you are visiting is the official site, and make sure it has a "lock symbol" next to the URL.
3. Scam texts! It is now common for people to pose as an official number when sending a text, you may receive a message from "Lloyds bank" or "Gov.UK" (or similar). Please be weary of clicking any links received from these texts, and do not reply to these texts with any personal information.
4. Computer Viruses! Keep your laptop up to date, and make sure you have Windows Defender enabled, doing weekly Full Scans will keep an eye on any that slip through the net.
5. Health scams! If you have visited a pharmacy website, whether from a text link or email, click on the "Registered Pharmacy" on the websites home page, this will lead to the General Pharmaceutical Council website if its legit.
