🌿✨ SALIS is Officially Up and Running ✨🌿

Here’s the heart of it: This week, SALIS completed our very first project supporting a local organisation here in Leicestershire.

They needed help improving their cabling setup in a challenging older building, with solid brick walls, hidden obstacles, and a few stubborn corners. While it was far from glamorous, it reminded us that dependable technology always starts with the foundations.

Even small upgrades behind the scenes can make a big difference to the daily running of any business or charity, whether that’s faster Wi-Fi, safer equipment, or simply fewer headaches.

This milestone feels special because it’s exactly why SALIS exists: to help local teams, from independent shops and offices to community organisations, stay connected, secure, and stress-free.

It’s been a bit quiet on here lately – but for good reason!

While I’ve had other commitments on the go, I’ve also been putting time into building a stronger foundation for SALIS — and that’s meant stepping back to:

🎨Give the home office a DIY refresh (because a good space = good work!
🛜 Set up a proper home network and lab for ongoing development and testing
🧠 Refine the business model, branding, and service packages to support local charities and SMEs.
🤖 Build automation into how I create and share content
📝And squeeze in training for the AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals exam — training done, now it’s cramming time before the mid-month exam! Wish me luck! 🤞

Tech Tip! 📶🔒

Is your business Wi-Fi truly secure? Weak Wi-Fi can be a welcome mat for cyber nasties!

Tip: Double Down on Your Wi-Fi Security!

Here's how to keep your network locked down:

* Change Your Router's Admin Password: That default password? Hackers know it. Change it to something strong and unique, ASAP!

* Create a Separate Guest Network: Don't let visitors wander through your main network! Set up a separate "guest" Wi-Fi for them, with its own password. And if you don't need it, turn it off!

* Change Your Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and Password: Don't use the default name! And make sure your Wi-Fi password is a tough one – think long and strong. Also, make sure you are using WPA2 or WPA3 encryption.

Here's a general process on how to get started to access your router settings: the details are typically found on the router itself or a card that came with it. For example, log in to the router configuration page by loading a web browser and going to https://192.168.0.1, or https://192.168.1.1 If these do not work try http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

Please note that SALIS is not responsible for any changes made to your router configuration. If you are unsure about any of these steps, please consult your router's manual, contact your internet service provider or reach out to us and we'll talk you through the basics for free.

Hi everyone, I'm Shane, and I'm passionate about helping local small businesses and not-for-profits thrive through reliable IT and cybersecurity solutions.

I believe that technology should be an enabler, not a headache. That's why my wife Leighann and I are launching SALIS – to provide personalised, proactive, and practical tech support to businesses and charities right here in Leicestershire.

With years of experience in various IT roles ranging from helpdesk/servicedesk positions at the beginning of my career to being a network and security specialist in senior infrastructure positions, and working in various industries from private and public sectors, I'm committed to delivering solutions that are tailored to your unique needs and budgets.
