Why do colours sometimes look different in print?
I check and correct thousands of artwork files every year, and colour is one of the subjects customers ask about most often.

A design can look bright and perfect on screen, then feel a little different when it is printed. That does not automatically mean something has gone wrong.

Screens create colour using RGB light. Printing creates colour using CMYK inks, and the final result is also affected by the printer, profile, material, finish, lighting and even your monitor brightness.

In the latest Julia’s Print Clinic, I explain:
✅ RGB versus CMYK
✅ why bright blues, greens and oranges can change
✅ how colour profiles help
✅ 100% black versus rich black
✅ why vinyl, board and fabric can look different
✅ when to ask for a printed sample
✅ the common mistakes that create colour surprises

A few simple checks can make your printed results much more predictable.

New from Julia’s Print Clinic: Layers & Cutlines

I check and fix thousands of artwork files every year before they reach production, and one of the most common causes of avoidable delays is a simple layer or cutline issue.
The good news is that these problems are usually quick to fix once you know what our workflow needs.

In the latest Print Clinic guide, I explain:

why layers matter in large-format production;
how to use CUT, CREASE and DRILLHOLES correctly;
how to organise the layer “sandwich”;
the common mistakes that can slow down proofing;
what to check before approving your artwork.

A correctly structured file helps improve cutting accuracy, reduce questions and get your order moving through production more quickly.
