Stop No. 5 on our digital journey through the Iron Age is Conygar.

If you’ve explored Conygar on foot, share your photos in the comments and we’ll recreate the same view in Microsoft Flight Simulator; captured from the sky and fully 3D-modelled to reflect how it may have looked during its active period.

Comment below and, together, we’ll bridge the digital age with the Iron Age.

You’ve walked Hadrian’s Wall, now see it from the sky.

Ever wondered what the frontier looked like from a bird’s-eye view?
Our new 20-part collectible series follows a carefully mapped flight plan along our ultra-detailed Hadrian’s Wall model in Microsoft Flight Simulator, showing the Wall as it may have appeared when newly built.

From forts to milecastles, Roman villages to ancient bridges, each poster marks a new waypoint on your aerial journey.

Poster No. 1 is ready for take off. Join us as we fly the length of the Wall, one landmark at a time.

Our Iron Age Hillfort recreations continues with No. 3: Dolebury.

This reconstruction captures the site as it may have first appeared, overlooking North Somerset long before its landscape changed.

Fun fact: Centuries later, the hillfort found a new purpose as a commercial rabbit warren in the medieval and post-medieval eras.

And for something completely different, here is a piece of airfield archaeology linked to the "afterlife" of two of Gosport's "Palmerston Forts"

In 1917 the Royal Flying Corps' "School of Special Flying" was established at Grange Aerodrome between Forts Grange and Rowner on the Gosport Advanced lines, to the west of the town.

The school was tasked with developing a new approach to pilot training and to training instructors who would teach the approach.

The aerodrome occupied the site that is now HMS Sultan and the Rowner Estate and the two forts were used as barracks and messes for the flying school.

The "Gosport Method" went on to be adopted as the basis of pilot training still used today, giving Forts Rowner and Grange a supporting role in a significant episode of aviation history.

As a spin-off from a larger Gosport Lines project, I have created an interpretation of the aerodrome using Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The hangars are modelled from contemporary photographs, descriptions and surviving examples, and the static aircraft by fellow developer Totof.

Coming soon to MSFS2024 - Iron Age Hillforts Vol 1: north Somerset.

In this collection you will be able to fly over recreations of twenty-one Iron Age hillforts from Brent Knoll in the south to Stokeleigh in the north, overlooking the Avon Gorge, and east as far as the mighty Dolebury Warren.

Designed for low and slow flyers with an interest in history and archaeology, this collection will give you a new perspective on these landscape monuments.

Welcome to Time Machine Designs.

Working with our technology partner, boomsatsuma, we specialise in reconstructing heritage sites as they appeared at their peak, using games technologies including Microsoft Flight Simulator and Unreal Engine.

We have two objectives:
1. to develop third party content that can be downloaded and enjoyed by flight sim enthusiasts as a form of "virtual heritage tourism"
2. to explore the potential of the simulator as a tool for heritage engagement, education and research

Our first release was Hadrian's Wall 180, the world's first digital reconstruction of the entire Hadrian's Wall system as it appeared in the year 180AD.

Hadrian's Wall 180 is available for purchase now for MSFS 2020 from www.timemachinedesigns.co.uk or from the in game Marketplace.
