What’s one piece of technology you wish someone would just sit down and explain to you?

Not fix it for you.

Not tell you to “just Google it”.

Actually explain it, in plain English, so you understand what it does and why you need it.

It could be something on your phone, your laptop, your tablet, an app you use every day…

or something you keep hearing about but have never really understood.

I’m curious…

What would you choose?

Drop it in the comments 👇

You never know - your question might be one that lots of other people have too.

Have you ever closed a browser tab by mistake and thought…

“I didn’t mean to do that!”

There’s a really simple way to get it back.

On a Windows keyboard, press:

Ctrl + Shift + T

On a Mac, press:

Command + Shift

These shortcuts will reopen the last tab you closed.

You can press them multiple times to reopen other closed tabs.

Did you know these shortcuts?

How much of your technology do you actually understand?

I don’t mean can you use it.

Most of us can.

I mean, do you know what’s happening in the background?

Your phone remembers your passwords.

Your browser fills in your details.

Your photos appear on another device.

Apps ask for permissions.

Your email suggests replies.

Your devices install updates.

And now AI is starting to make decisions and suggestions for us too.

Most of the time, we just click Allow, Accept, Yes or Next and carry on.

And I get it.

We’ve got better things to do than read every message that pops up on our screens!

But there’s a difference between using technology and understanding the technology we’re using.

And that’s where digital confidence comes in.

You don’t need to be technical.

You just need to understand enough to make informed choices about the technology that’s becoming such a big part of everyday life.

That’s something I think we should all be talking about a lot more.

How much do you really understand about what your technology is doing in the background?

When was the last time you checked what your browser remembers about you?

I’m not just talking about your saved passwords.

Your browser might also have saved:

🔸 Your name and address
🔸 Email addresses
🔸 Phone numbers
🔸 Payment details
🔸 Login details
🔸 Other information you’ve entered into websites

It’s incredibly convenient…

Until you stop and think about how much information you have actually got stored in there!

I’ve been looking at my own digital life quite differently recently, and I’m finding that these are the little things I probably wouldn’t have thought about before.

So here’s today’s tech tip:

👉 Open the browser you use most often and have a look at what it has saved.

You don’t need to change anything today.

Just have a look.

You might be surprised.

And once you start looking, you may find yourself asking:

“Do I really still need all of this?”

When you think about your digital life, what comes to mind?

Your emails?

Your online banking?

Maybe a notebook somewhere with your passwords written down?

But your digital life is so much more than that.

It could include:

Your phone.
Your tablet.
Your computer.
Your photos and videos.
Your documents.
Your cloud storage.
Your shopping accounts.
Your subscriptions.
Your messaging apps.
Your social media accounts.

And then there are the things we might not have thought about quite so much.

What happens to your social media accounts?

Do you want them deleted?

Memorialised?

Left as they are?

What about all the information you’ve shared with AI?

Your conversations.
Your questions.
Your documents.

The things you’ve told it about yourself.

What happens to all of that?

And what about all those accounts you’ve created over the years and probably forgotten about?

This is why I’m beginning to think that digital planning is about much more than keeping a list of passwords.

It’s about knowing what makes up your digital life.

And then deciding what you want to happen to it.

Because if we don’t make those decisions ourselves, someone else may eventually have to make them for us.

Have you ever actually made a list of everything that makes up your digital life?

I have a feeling most of us would be surprised by how long that list really is.

Your digital life is bigger than you think

Your email.
Your passwords.
Your photos.
Your documents.
Your social media.
Your banking.
Your shopping accounts.
Your devices.
Your cloud storage.
Your personal information.
Your digital footprint.

If you disappeared tomorrow, would someone you trust know what digital accounts and information you have, where it is, and what you want to happen to it?

It’s something most of us probably don’t think about until we need to.

But your digital life is part of your life too.

Have you ever thought about what would happen to yours?

If something goes wrong, would you know who to call?

You’ve clicked the link.
You’ve given them your password.
Your account has been taken over.
You’ve transferred money.
You’ve given away personal information.

What do you do now?

And importantly:

Who do you report it to?

That’s a question so many people can’t answer.

I’ve been putting together some resources around this because I think staying safe online isn’t just about knowing what not to do.

It’s also about knowing what to do when something does go wrong.

What happens if your email address is in a data breach?

Your email address can appear in a data breach even when you did nothing wrong.

A company you’ve used gets breached.

Your details are exposed.

So what do you do?

✅ Change the password for the affected account

✅ Make sure you haven’t reused that password elsewhere

✅ Check 2FA/MFA

✅ Check your recovery information

✅ Watch for phishing attempts

✅ Know which accounts are associated with that email address

The breach might not be your fault.

What you do next is where you have control.

Your email address is more valuable than you think

Would you give your home address to every website that asked for it?

Probably not.

So why do we give our main email address to absolutely everything?

👉 Shopping.
👉 Competitions.
👉 Newsletters.
👉 Free downloads.
👉 Apps.
👉 Websites we might only use once.

Over time, that one email address can end up everywhere.

There are ways to use different email addresses, or features such as Hide My Email, so you don’t have to give your primary email address to everyone.

It’s worth thinking about:

❓ Who actually needs your main email address?

❓ And who doesn’t?
