Users often ask “should I leave my printer switched on”. I always recommend that inkjet’s and Tank models be left on, because a printer needs to run occasional cleaning cycles to prevent the nozzles drying up, and Tank printers usually have fixed print heads that aren’t easy to replace or repair.

With respect to laser printers that use dry powder they don’t need to be left switched on.

For those of you dreading upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 because Microsoft announced they were longer going to support Windows 10 from 14th October 2025, there maybe some good news on the home front.

They are considering extending support for Windows 10 and Office 365 subscribers, but it may well require that users will have to pay an ongoing fee to keep receiving security and feature updates for both software installations.

As is Microsoft’s will, they often announce intentions to make changes to their software products, but also just as often do a U-Turn to appease a larger group of disgruntled users.

I will find out more about what options will be open to Windows 10 and Office 365 subscribers nearer to the proposed end of support date.

For those users who upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 feature version (21H2) was their initial release model. Thereafter, Microsoft decided to release further feature updates in following years namely, (22H2), (23H2) and the current version (24H2).

As each feature update expired, so did the usual security updates, unless users upgraded to the next feature update thereby making machines more vulnerable to cyber type attacks.

I would therefore urge all users to check their current versions of Windows 11 and upgrade to the latest feature update (24H2) to ensure your machines are receiving regular security updates.

Microsoft have announced that Windows 10 is being phased out, and is gradually being replaced with a new version entitled Windows 11.

Following the completion of many upgrades, I must admit the new version does tend to make even Windows 10 outdated.

Windows 11 has many new features is built on a more stable platform and should offer users a considerable amount of operational stability whilst offering increased performance.

For current Windows 10 users, Microsoft are for a limited period offering Windows 11 software for free to upgrade. However, we have found that carrying out a clean installation is far better than doing a pure upgrade. This removes the chance of any bugs in Windows 10 being imported into the final Windows 11 installation.
