🔊 Tech enthusiasts, those “that use because they have to” and everyone in between - Just wanted to give you all a friendly heads-up about our Bank Holiday plans. Due to a couple of our brilliant tech wizards taking some much-needed annual leave, Prism Tech will be closed from today, Saturday 29th August, right through the Bank Holiday weekend. We’ll be back open bright and early on Wednesday, 2nd September, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, ready to tackle all your tech woes! An update from the owner of Prism Technology
This is an unusual post for me to share, but I want to be completely transparent with you all.
Since we opened our second store in Western Road nearly three years ago, we’ve loved being able to serve both ends of town. However, we haven’t yet found a "smooth flow" for that location. With recent staff leave and sickness, we’ve often found ourselves running at a limited capacity that doesn't meet the standards I want for you.
I currently have a job opening, but to be honest, I don't have the spare time right now to run a meaningful interview and training process while keeping the wheels turning. I need to take a step back and look at the business as a whole to ensure you get the service you deserve.

Because of this, I’ve made some immediate decisions:
• Temporary Store Closure: Our Western Road store will remain closed for the foreseeable future. This is not a permanent closure—we will reopen once we have the right staffing levels and skills in place to serve you properly.
• Device Collections: All customer devices are being moved to our main site so they are available for collection. We are contacting affected customers now and offering free delivery if you can't make it to the other shop.
• Refining Our Services: To keep our turnaround times fast, we will no longer be taking on unfamiliar repairs or complex "investigation" jobs where the time spent outweighs the cost of the item. This allows us to focus on what we do best.
On a personal note, I’ve been working 100-120 hour weeks, for over a year now, and 80-hour weeks for two years before that. To be honest, I’m tired. I’m not afraid of hard work, but I need to fix the internal flow of the business so we can be better.
I will be going on annual leave in 10 days' time. The shop will remain open, but I ask that you please give my colleagues a little extra time with your orders while I’m away. Prism is still here and still thriving—we are just taking a small step back to move two steps forward.

While half of England is currently running on three coffees and a prayer after that 1am kick-off, we’ve been open and powering through since 9:30am!

However, we are taking a quick "tactical timeout" this afternoon. Both of our stores will be closing today from 2:00pm until roughly 3:30pm for a team meeting and staff training.

We’re using the time to huddle up and sharpen our skills so we can keep providing the best tech repairs in the area. We’ll be back open as soon as the meeting wraps up to handle all your laptop, phone, and tablet needs.

🛑 STOP! Hammer Time? No... Repair Time! 🛠️
We need to have a little "heart-to-heart" (and by heart, we mean the CPU of this operation).
We are incredibly grateful for the support and the non-stop recommendations that keep us as the busiest repair shop in the area. But, we’ve noticed a bit of a glitch in the system lately.
Currently, our team is losing 2 to 4 hours EVERY DAY just answering the phone or chatting at the counter with people "just passing by" to check on their repair status.
Here’s the blunt truth (with love!):
Every time we put down a screwdriver to answer a call asking "how's it going?", that’s another 10 minutes your device (and everyone else’s) sits on the bench untouched. It’s like a well-oiled machine in the back—one tech might be heating a screen while disassembling another—but every "just wondering..." phone call pulls us out of the zone.
The "Do's and Don'ts" of Chasing Us:
• DON’T: Call us at 10 AM to ask if the part we ordered at 6 PM last night has arrived. Couriers aren't wizards (unfortunately), and they show up when they show up!
• DO: Use the Live Tracking Service. If it says "Waiting for Parts," we promise we aren't hiding them in the cupboard for fun. We’re waiting too!
• DON’T: Call to ask for an update when you've literally just closed the tracking page that says "Being Diagnosed." We see you! We know you know!
• DO: Trust the system. Your receipt says we will contact you the second there is news, a quote, or a finished device. We want your stuff out of our shop and back in your hands just as fast as you do—it's how we get our "dopamine hit" and, you know, pay the bills!
A quick heads-up for the rest of this week:
We have some staff on emergency leave (hope you're doing okay, team!), so we won't be doing front-desk consultations for the next few days. We’re still open for drop-offs and same-day repairs, but we’re going "heads down, tools up" to clear the backlog.
While half the country was melting and heading home during the heatwave, we were hunched over workbenches getting your data recovered and your screens fixed. This isn't just a job to us, it’s a passion—so please, let us actually do it!

Please note: Our store will be open slightly later than usual today as our keyholder has had to attend the UTC. We will have staff at the site, but unable to collect devices currently until the key has been transferred. 🛠️ Scheduled Service Update 🛠️ We will be closing our doors for a short period on Wednesday 10th June from 10:00am to 12:30pm.
We are taking this time for an internal team session focused on improving our workshop efficiency and refining our service standards. We want to ensure that every repair and customer interaction meets the high bar we set for ourselves.
