Gradspotters Prospect— Joel Allen

Joel graduated First Class from Portsmouth with a simple argument: physical media isn't finished. His major project, A Manifesto for Change in Ten Tapes, makes the case in full. Ten cassettes, each with a foldout J-card and a ten-minute audio piece of interviews, music and narrative, all built to be handled rather than just looked at.

He works across letterpress, screen print and Risograph, and he's an ISTD member now looking for industry experience and studio access to keep it going. Swipe through.

Gradspotters Prospect —

"Will you work with me?" sits at the centre of Liv's practice, and she means it literally. This Hamburg-born screen printer turned the schoolyard yes / no / maybe note into a thesis on how creative people work together and who gets to be in the room.

She trained at HBK Braunschweig, prints at Viadukt in Vienna, and starts a Masters at UdK Berlin this autumn. Swipe for three projects worth your attention.

Yesterday we made a quick handprinted sign for the Department Store & Co. Sip & Swap event.

We used the xToolOfficial P2 laser to cut out 3mm rubber letters. 100% power / speed 6 / one pass - and they came out really sharp.

We then used a simple setup of glass to roll out the Essdee block printing ink with a basic Speedball Art Products roller and hand pressed each letter. Forgive the kerning, this was done in a rush with no template or markings.

All in all, it took us 25 minutes and we look forward to using more rubber block letters to create type work in a more accurate way. ✌🏼
