Why I build PWAs instead of native apps (and why that's usually the smarter call)

When a client asks me for "an app," the App Store isn't always where I'd point them.

Progressive Web Apps give small businesses the same core experience — installable, works offline, sits on the home screen — without the App Store tax, the 1-2 week review queue, or maintaining two separate codebases for iOS and Android.

For most small businesses I work with, that means:
✅ Lower cost to build and maintain
✅ Instant updates — no waiting on app store approval
✅ One codebase, every device
✅ No 30% commission eating into revenue
✅ Easier for customers — no download required, just visit and install

Native apps still have their place — heavy device integration, offline-first complex apps, or big marketing budgets that benefit from App Store visibility. But for most of the businesses I work with? A PWA gets them 90% of the value at a fraction of the cost and hassle.

I'll tell you honestly if a PWA is the smarter route for your business.

Something exciting is in the works with the brilliant Amy Mandelj at A&T Office Admin Solutions

We connected, she shows me something she’s been working on and I instantly respond with …. I can turn that into an app; a PWA (progressive web app)

This last week, I get her install some apps / setup some accounts and some coding on my part and vibe coding on her part we’ve built something great!

It’s in the process of testing right now but to see the final masterpiece, I’m afraid you will have to stay tuned!

In the meantime: I’m always open to collaborating on tools that make office and admin work that bit easier. If there’s a repetitive task, a backlog, or a process that’s eating your time, get in touch — chances are it can be automated, streamlined, or built into something simple that actually helps.

Public Wi-Fi is unencrypted — anyone on the same network could intercept your data. Use your mobile data or a VPN instead. It takes seconds to switch and could save you a serious headache.

Just gave this guy a PlayStation 4 controller with stick drift that I’ve had on the side gathering dust since I upgraded to a PlayStation 5. He’s local to me. DN6 based. 16 years old. Came smart, on time via his own means. Relying on no one. Looks like he’s know what he’s doing and has a good workshop / setup at home.

Told him to keep it. Sell once fixed to make some money so if you have phone or console that needs repairs this might be your guy! All the best mate. What I’ve seen online and in person you should go far!
