There have been a few calls regarding linking tablets, phones and TVs together recently. This is particularly useful when in combination with a Chromecast as you're able to turn your tablet or phone into a smart remote control for all of your streaming services. If you're having issues getting your devices to talk to each other, please don't hesitate to give me a call on 07576 420484 (09:30-16:30) or send an email to [email protected] and I'll get back to you.

Work is fast-paced and can be quite demanding on our time. The pandemic has encouraged us to do a lot more out-of-hours work just to keep up or to improve the quality of our work. Part of our working week should be about self-improvement, noting skills we'd like to improve or just clarifying what "that button" does in Excel or an application used on a daily basis. The more we understand the tools we use, the more effective and efficient we become, giving us time to focus on the things we love or to get that promotion we may be looking for. And for those of us who may be struggling through the current cost of living crisis, improving home admin skills via the use of Excel to manage budgets is something we could all benefit from.

ExIT can provide tailored training packages to help give you the boost you're looking for with Microsoft Office. Whether it be:
• making Word documents look consistent using styles and templates
• using data to automate mailing processes
• formatting Excel spreadsheets to both inform and clearly present data
• creating personalised budget spreadsheets to show income and outgoings to help manage home finances
• or setting up databases to manage small business or personal data
We have you covered. If you'd like to discuss training opportunities, give us a call on the number provided and we'll go through the options available.

Streaming has become extremely popular over the last few years. We now have a plethora of services to choose from on our TVs or via apps on our smartphones or computers. There are some services that do not have their own apps, for example Disney+ and Amazon, which take away from that instant TV experience. There is a way, however, to create an app through your browser that makes the experience much smoother.

1. If Edge is the preferred browser, click on the 3 … settings icon in the top right.
2. Choose the Apps option and then click on “Install this site as an app…”.
3. Enter a descriptive name for the app and then click Install.
4. Open the app and right click on the taskbar icon. Choose “Pin to taskbar”.

Now the desired site will just open on a single click from the taskbar. Easy!

Working at home looks to be around for some time to come. While the vaccine is due to be distributed shortly, working from home has proven to be a huge success for a lot of businesses. As a result, many businesses will be looking to allow their staff to continue this trend. Here are some tips on how to turn your home office into something a little more you, while maintaining high productivity and sensible ergonomics.

1) The right desk and chair make a huge difference. Look for desks with enough space for your IT equipment and paperwork. L shaped desks are the ideal solution, however, any desk with extra space will serve you well. Chairs should be able to swivel and have adjustments for height, back position and lumbar support.
2) The monitor should be at arm’s length and at a height where you do not need to strain your neck to look up or down. Are your eyes level when working?
3) A good keyboard is one of the most overlooked peripherals. As the key interface between you and your PC, you should be looking for something that has positive feedback when typing but is also comfortable and solid. A lot of bundled keyboards tend to be of the cheaper variety and are not always ideal.
4) Multiple monitors or an extra-wide monitor help with busy workloads. Having enough space on your screen to work on a document while reviewing or researching is key to maximum productivity.

If you would like to discuss any of the above, please give ExIT a call, send an email or open Facebook chat and leave a message. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

Scams are on the rise currently, particularly with Black Friday (27th Nov) around the corner. Always check those links before clicking them. Here are some tips on safe usage:

1. Always check the spelling and grammar in official looking emails. A bona fide email should not have any mistakes, the reputation of the company is on the line.
2. Always hover over links and check the status bar. The tag and status bar both show the actual link destination. While this can look confusing, the destination is shown just after the outlook safelink URL. In the example shown (an email claiming to be from Amazon) it is linking to msiiehsfd0 which is most definitely not Amazon!
3. Bear in mind who you have subscriptions with, who you shop with and where you shop. Always open an email with the consideration that it may be a scam. Trust must also be earned within the digital world.
