⚠️Public Safety Announcement⚠️

We recently visited a customer who had purchased a cheap WiFi booster. This one being a "WiFiBlast" unit. There are many variants of these cheap generic Chinese units to be found on the internet, whether it be eBay, Amazon or webpages set up to grab the attention of those searching for such devices. These devices are not only questionable on whether they work, but electrically dangerous.

When removing this from the customers socket, the unit came away from the thin, flimsy adaptor plate used. This leaves the live and neutral contacts exposed, presenting an electrocution risk. The construction of this unit and adaptor was so poor, that even after re assembling, the unit could be easily knocked and come away from the adaptor, giving the same result.

Please don't purchase cheap Chinese equipment. It is not always safe, not always good quality and not always legal. We know it's hard to know sometimes, but if in doubt, please always contact us.

Blimey, it's the big day in less than a week and as usual, we're so busy we don't even know what day it is!

The days have aligned to afford us 5 days off in a row this year, which are much needed - if only to catch up on everything and do the tax return! (sorry, one or two of you may be getting an invoice as we catch up😉)

𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀?

Today's triumph is sorting out the mess / fraud that is Antivirus.

Antivirus is a bit of a necessary evil, but today, we have cancelled a whopping £687.29 of Antivirus subscription renewals and their nefarious addons! Who knows what this would have cost our customer at renewal time?!

After speaking to Total AV and saying NO 5 times to their renewal comebacks (the 3rd comeback was offering all the software for free, and the 4th comeback they offered an 80% discount - make of that what you will!), £218.80 was saved from renewal.

AVG was the next problem to tackle, with the customer having a 10 license AVG Premium subscription, but that didn't stop AVG helping themselves to another £468.49 of subscriptions with yet another 10 license Internet Security subscription, 2 extra VPN subscriptions (one was already included in the premium subscription), duplicate subscriptions of Tune Up, Anti Track and Breach Guard, along with a subscription of Driver Updater for good measure. We have left the customer with just one AVG Premium subscription active and running as there several months left. We also disabled the notifications that allow AVG to scare customers into thinking they need additional products, which is how they "scam" customers into buying more - and many customers don't even know they have!

If you are using AVG / Avast / Norton (all now owned by the same company) / Total AV - Its worth having a check through your emails, bank statement etc to see what you might be paying for. Nearly all Antivirus companies are up to the same tricks, but those mentioned above are the most prolific ones we come across

As a lot of people are painfully aware, O2 are doing maintenance in the area until Friday - unfortunately, our mobile contact 07977 400169 is being affected by this, so please try to avoid this for phonecalls/texts until at least Saturday onwards. The sound of Sailing By and the shipping forecast brings to an end (almost) of the late shift.

Tonight, we have set up a new laptop and migrated data from the old to the new, checked over a laptop and cleaned where necessary from a telephone fraud to satisfy a bank so the customer can be refunded of their losses. Copied data from a failing external hard disk onto a new one and clean out a PS4 as it was getting hot, and the fan was loud.

We'll be doing it all again Thursday from 09:00 ... well, maybe 09:05 ...

We have saved a customer around £375 this morning by unsubscribing them from Avast, and AVG. This elderly gentleman was paying for multiple subscriptions of multiple products across both companies (owned by the same Avast), whilst only having one PC.

It breaks my heart that these companies are allowed to get away with this. I never recommend AVG or Avast. Whilst their Antivirus engines are good, their business practises are not. If they have your credit card on file, they will miss sell you as much as they can.
