to continue from my last post

China - After being in the doldrums last year life is beginning to return to the prices. Except now buyers are becoming a little more discerning.

GB - I can't take the pulse on GB, it is up, then down. Key items have remained pretty flat though.

Oceania - The Ozzie fad for PNG has passed us now. But put up some interesting WA and watch the prices leap up.

Caribbean - The shine has gone off this region a long time ago. Prices crashed and its still cheap, no sign of life yet

Russia - Good Russia will be snapped up by the Russians, they know their history and they really know their stamps. Unusual early material sells for a fortune. They will not buy run of the mill Russian stamps, they have plenty there. This remains one of the most underrated areas of collecting outside Russia. The wealth of material, particularly in the revolutionary years is massive and can get very specialised. Know your Russian stamps and you will do well, a great (and complicated) area to collect

UPDATE

I am in communication with auction houses, stamp dealers and members of the stamp community on a daily basis. Since the lockdown things have changes. There has been a huge increase in new philatelists, particularly the younger generations (30+) and a shortage of decent collections. This has pushed the prices up dramatically on classic items, although what I describe as schoolboy stamps continue in their gradual decline in interest and prices. Specialized collections are the hardest to obtain and command the best prices. 1900 to 1940 have seen the largest increase. Post 1944, with the notable exception of China, have seen the smallest increases.

As far as regions are concerned here are the trends

Latin America - mega increase in prices for classic and specialilzed

US - Collectible and specialised have seen a good increase (i am updating my site at the moment)

British Commonwealth - Reasonable increases, India and Australian States leading the way, British Europe, as always seeing the smallest increases with Malta at the bottom

India States - Wow, these are getting to be out of most folks price range, this trend started about three years ago and since the lockdown prices have gone crazy, next weeks Indian States sale at Stanley Gibbons will produce eye popping figures

Europe - Nothing happening, dealers are very happy to unload it. The only thing seeing interest is Romania and very recently Czechoslovakia (who knew?).
