Colour is deeply personal. There are some super interesting studies on how it can effect us, our mood and our receptivity to information.
During a recent project, a colour I'd suggested had become a sticking point. My client didn't connect with it at all on a personal level. They wouldn't paint their walls with it or wear it, so why would they use it for their brand? And I completely understand that perspective. For most small business owners, their brand feels like an extension of who they are and what they have built from themselves. Of course it has to feel right!
But colour in branding isn't often about personal preference, it is about what enhances your business offerings and resonates with the people you're trying to reach. So I asked a different question: when you see this colour alongside your work, your products, your packaging, this whole atmosphere you've created. Does it feel like it belongs?
Seeing it in context with a new perspective was all that was needed, and the colour that had felt all wrong turned out to be exactly right!
It can be really hard to see your own business clearly when you're standing so close to it. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes and the right questions in the right moment are exactly what is needed!
