One of the questions we're asked most often is:
"How do you get decent internet in the middle of nowhere?"
The short answer is: with a lot more kit than we used to ๐
Reliable internet has become one of the most important parts of life in the truck. It's how we upload videos, update the website, plan routes, keep in touch with family, and collapse and stream something after a long day on the road.
Over the last few weeks we've been testing a new setup from Solwise Ltd, built around the Teltonika RUTM30 5G router, a roof-mounted MiMo antenna, and a TAP400 access point.
The clever bit is flexibility.
The system can work with mobile data, eSIMs, and Starlink, allowing us to switch between different internet sources depending on where we are and what signal is available. That's especially interesting for us because our next big adventures include Africa and the 'Stans, where connectivity can be a bit more challenging than it is in Europe.
We won't pretend the setup was plug-and-play. There were moments involving manuals, menus, and more head scratching than we'd like to admit ๐
But once configured, it's been impressively reliable and has given us something we've always wanted: one network that connects everything in the truck, from laptops and cameras to phones and the TV from multiple sources.
If you're interested in how it all works, what we liked, what frustrated us, and whether we'd recommend it (spoiler: we would) we've put together a full review on the website โฌ๏ธ
