frequently challenging how clients see themselves, as part of the process. What our portfolio doesn’t show, is the insight, care, support, energy, wisdom, experience and determination we routinely put at our clients’ disposal. Often without telling them! And that, since you are bound to be wondering, is what sets us apart and why you really, really should get in touch.

YORKSHIRE DAY – HOW TO DESCRIBE THE WEATHER IN BROAD YORKSHIRE!

At Blacksmith, we are proud of our Yorkshire values. So today, unafraid of stereotyping, we celebrate straight talking to the point of being blunt, parsimony, and of course ferrets.

Here, for a bit of a laugh, are a few Yorkshire expressions to help when discussing the weather.

• "It's a bit black over Bill's mother's" – said when dark clouds suggest rain is coming. Nobody's quite sure who Bill is, but the phrase has spread well beyond Yorkshire.
• "Chucking it down" – pouring with rain (fairly widespread across the North, not just Yorkshire).
• "Siling down" – another way of saying it's pouring; "sile" is an old dialect word for pouring rain.
• "Perishing" – bitterly cold, as in "eh, it's perishing out there."
• "Nithered" – meaning very cold, usually said about how you feel rather than the weather itself, e.g. "I'm nithered."
• "Mafting" – hot and sticky/uncomfortable, e.g. "it's mafting today."
• "Parky" – a bit chilly (used more widely too, but common in Yorkshire).
• "Letting up" – rain easing off, e.g. "it's letting up a bit now."
• “Starved” - to be freezing cold, “eh, I'm starved, shut that door”

Our favourite being:
"I'm fair mafted after walking up that hill in this weather."

FARM SAFETY WEEK 2026 - WHO WOULD FILL YOUR BOOTS ?

This week marks the 14th annual Farm Safety Week, led by the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) - an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of farm safety and mental health across the UK and Ireland.

Farming continues to have the poorest safety record of any occupation in the country. This year’s theme, “It’s about people”, aims to shift the focus away from statistics and shine a light on the real people affected by farm safety incidents. Challenging the long-standing misconception that only fatal injuries matter, and recognising that every incident can have a lasting impact.

During Farm Safety Week, Blacksmith are delighted to play a small part in raising awareness of this vital organisation and their ongoing commitment to improving farm safety across the country.

FORGET THE ARGY-BARGY – IT’S TIME TO KNOCK THE ARGIES OUT!

Talk about grudge matches – tonight’s world cup semi-final has it all.
The feud between Bellingham and Tuchel, reignited after the Norway match, the long shadow of the Falklands and the memory of Maradona’s sleight of hand, hang over the fixture. Come on England – no more messy wins, let’s teach Messi a lesson and show the world what we are capable of.

The pundits at Blacksmith are confident that a properly organised and motivated England team can beat Argentina, but it’s going to be a close call and need a super- human effort. Early goals will be key, and above all our worn-out players need to get the job done in normal time.

THE DREAM CONTINUES ⚽

After the heroics of the historic match against Mexico, England now face a Nordic nemesis this Saturday as Norway stand between the Three Lions and a place in the World Cup semi-finals.

Waiting for them is a familiar Premier League threat in the form of Norway's powerhouse striker, Erling Haaland.

From 10pm onwards, the nation will be holding its breath.

Come on England – we know you can do it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

NEPA AWARDS NIGHT - NEIL TAKES HIS PLACE AT THE WINNERS’ TABLE!

Yesterday Neil joined the glitterati of the UK poultry sector for a big night out in London.

Joining a table of finalists, it was fingers crossed for a couple of wins. In the end Jason and Sharon Cooper just missed out to Lucy Sanderson in the Producer of the Year category and Robert and Ethel Chapman swept away a strong field to take the Packer of the Year award.

British magician, comedian, and television presenter Ben Hanlin hosted the awards with a mesmerising melange of magic tricks.

GOOD LUCK TO THIS YEAR’S NATIONAL EGG & POULTRY AWARDS FINALISTS

Tonight, Neil will be joining Peter and Anne-Marie Cumbers from Joice and Hill for what promises to be a fantastic evening, celebrating the very best of the poultry industry.

Hosted in London by entertainer and magician Ben Hanlin, the award ceremony brings together industry leaders, innovators and rising stars from across the egg and poultry sector.

Here's to a brilliant evening, and the very best of luck to all of this year's finalists!

Neil is hoping that either Lucy Sanderson of Morton Grange Farm or Jason Cooper of Norfolk Egg are successful in the Producer of the Year category, as he was responsible compiling the content for their entries!

Let’s hope that the tough truly get going when the going gets tough! ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

No puns, no word play, just heartfelt good luck to the England Team.

It feels like a big ask, but who knows?

Such a shame it’s on so late.

ENGLAND HAVE DESIGNS ON THE LAST 16 ⚽🏆

With injuries leaving the defence short-handed, England's biggest challenge tonight may be avoiding a penalty shoot-out. If it goes that way, Jordan Pickford might need the best match of his career!

Good luck to the Three Lions, especially Jordan — please make it straightforward for once! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

CREATIVITY ON AND OFF THE PITCH

There's something we love about watching England take the pitch — the same thing we love about a good brief landing on our desk.

It's never just about talent. It's creativity finding the right angle, inspiration turning a moment into something memorable, and a team trusting each other enough to make it work.

That's the job, whether you're building a campaign or chasing a result.

Good luck tonight, England. We're behind you. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
