Recycling.

A word that often triggers a gut reaction, eye roll or sigh. We've all had that moment where we forget which bin takes what, maybe thrown away something that we could've recycled or held onto items that we're not sure where to take. And where does it even end up?

When we say "Anything with a plug" we mean it quite literally (barring a few exceptions, of course). Our mission is to take unwanted, unused or damaged electrical equipment and make efforts to recycle it, giving it a second chance and saving it from landfill. We make it easy to recycle (it's free!) and through our work with local community centres and companies we aim to give back to the community and create new opportunities for them using refurbished tech.

At our drop-in sessions we've met a wide array of wonderful people, like Ann above, and helped them with their tech woes or provided them with discounted tech to get them online, work a job or entertain themselves and the family. This is positive change you can see, and it's all thanks to recycling.

If you see us, come across and have a chat, we won't bite!

And if you have tech you want to recycle, get in touch or drop in to our shop on Park Street. https://refurbit.co.uk/0ajl

Refurbit was proud to attend Colliderfest, spending two days sharing the history of technology with the local community. Our retro tech display and giant-screen Atari games attracted visitors of all ages and sparked conversations about reuse, repair and sustainability.

Working alongside the Maurice Rawling Centre through the government-funded Warm Spaces programme has been a fantastic opportunity for Refurbit to support the local community.

The centre offers a welcoming, safe space for everyone, with free food, hot drinks, and friendly faces for anyone who needs them. As part of this partnership, Refurbit has been hosting regular pop-in support sessions, helping both adults and children with everyday technology challenges.

From setting up emails and accessing medical records to parental guidance, online safety, paying bills online, and learning how to store photos securely, no question is ever too small, we’re always happy to help.

We’ve also created a pop-up computer room using refurbished laptops and equipment, giving people access to technology in a relaxed and supportive environment. Alongside this, we’ve been distributing free SIM cards in partnership with Good Things Foundation to help people stay connected.

To spark conversation and a little nostalgia, we even brought along some older technology to showcase how far tech has come over the years.

This project is all about warmth, inclusion, digital access, and community support and we’re incredibly proud to be part of it alongside the Maurice Rawling Centre.

Recycle. Reuse. Refurbit.
