I completely understand that AI is now being used to create artwork and visuals, and I'm not against using it where appropriate. However, we are increasingly receiving AI-generated artwork that simply isn't suitable for print production.
AI images can look perfectly fine on a screen, but that doesn't necessarily mean they contain enough resolution or detail to reproduce well at the required printed size. When a low-resolution image is enlarged, it becomes blurred, pixelated and lacking in detail — and unfortunately there's only so much we can do at the print stage to correct that.
We're also regularly receiving leaflet artwork without bleed. For print, artwork needs to be supplied with the correct bleed and trim area so that we can cut it accurately without risking white edges or inconsistent borders.
Could we please make sure that artwork being supplied for print meets the required print specifications before it comes through to us? If AI has been used to create an image, that's absolutely fine, but the resulting file still needs to be high enough resolution for its intended final size and prepared correctly for print.
We're very happy to advise on specifications or flag issues before production, but we can't turn poor-quality source artwork into high-quality printed artwork once it's been supplied. Ultimately, if we print it as supplied, the quality of the finished product reflects on us too.
I just want to avoid situations where we're expected to produce a professional printed result from artwork that isn't technically capable of producing one in the first place.
