Michael Foyle, violin and Julian Jacobson, piano will perform:

Beethoven Sonata Op. 24, “Spring”

Since winning The Netherlands Violin Competition 2016, Michael has performed as concerto soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Münchner Kammerphilharmonie. He has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, The Concertgebouw and New York Chamber Music Festival.
His discography includes the complete works for violin by Ravel (featured in Gramophone’s ‘Record of the Month’) and a Beethoven sonata cycle (five stars in BBC Music Magazine). In 2016, Michael became Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, and in 2021 at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne.

Julian Jacobson is Chairman of the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe and a recognised authority on Beethoven’s piano music. He has given eleven complete cycles of the piano sonatas, five of which were “marathons” where he played the complete 11-hour cycle from memory in a single day. More recently he has developed a commitment to French repertoire, particularly Debussy whose complete 24 Preludes he has performed on numerous occasions. He was Head of Keyboard Studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and is now a professor in Birmingham and at the Royal College of Music where Michael Foyle, who gained a
double distinction, was his piano student.
