Our Technical Director, Simon Wilks, took to the stage at BSides Bristol 2026 this weekend.
Simon presented “We didn’t have a patch - How Defence in Dept Saved Our Customers from Log4Shell”, telling the story of a real incident that began during the Log4Shell crisis in December 2021.
The talk wasn’t really about Log4Shell. It was about something that remains just as relevant today:
How do you protect an organisation from a threat before there’s a patch, before the security industry fully understand it, and before your security tools know what to look for?
It’s a good example of the approach we take with our customers. Security isn’t one product or one appliance. It’s multiple layers of protection, designed so that when one control fails, another still has an opportunity to stop the attack.
