Security update for VPS and dedicated server customers

We’ve contacted affected customers today about two security updates that may require action:

• A cPanel & WHM patch update, expected from 5:00pm UK time on 8 May 2026
• A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability known as Dirty Frag

If you manage a VPS or dedicated server with Heart Internet, please check your email and review the guidance carefully.

Where action is required, the email explains the relevant steps, including how to apply the cPanel update once available, or how to apply the recommended Dirty Frag mitigation while vendors prepare official kernel patches.

A security heads up for our VPS and dedicated server customers.

Two vulnerabilities have been disclosed in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.66 - one critical (remote code ex*****on) and one moderate (privilege escalation that could affect servers with multiple users or websites).

Both are fixed by upgrading to Apache 2.4.67.

No exploits in the wild right now, but worth getting ahead of this by upgrading now.

We’re aware of a critical Linux kernel vulnerability, CVE-2026-31431, also known as “Copy Fail”, which may affect some VPS and dedicated server environments.

The issue is a local privilege escalation flaw in the Linux kernel’s AF_ALG cryptographic interface. If exploited, it could allow an unprivileged local user to gain root access.

We’ve emailed potentially affected customers directly with guidance on how to check their server and apply the recommended mitigation.

Update: cPanel security patch now available

cPanel has now released a patch for the vulnerability identified in cPanel & WHM software.

This was a cPanel software issue affecting supported versions of cPanel globally, rather than a Heart Internet-specific issue. As a precaution, we took action to help protect customers while cPanel prepared and released the official patch.

If you manage your own server, cPanel advises running the following command as soon as possible:

/scripts/upcp --force

If your server is running an end-of-life operating system, such as CentOS 7, it may not be eligible for the latest cPanel updates. Please contact our support team and we can help advise on upgrading to a supported version.

A critical vulnerability has just been identified in cPanel's login authentication system, affecting all current versions of the software.

We acted immediately. cPanel, WHM, and webmail ports have been blocked across affected servers. Your sites and email delivery are running normally.

What is temporarily unavailable:
- cPanel control panel
- WHM
- Browser-based webmail

Email via desktop clients and mobile is unaffected.

We are monitoring for the official patch and will apply it as a priority. Our team is back on full shifts from 7am if you need to reach us.
