A pattern we keep seeing when we take on a new client.

Somebody in the business is re-explaining the whole company to an AI tool every morning. Pricing, customers, what was agreed at the last review. Typed out again, slightly differently, by whoever happens to be doing the job that day.

It is invisible work. It never appears on anyone's timesheet and it quietly caps what the tool can ever do, because you cannot build on something that forgets you overnight.

The fix is not a better subscription. It is writing the context down once, in a place the system reads before it starts. It is the least interesting hour of any engagement we run, and it changes the output more than anything else we do that month.

Jonny is unpacking the whole thing at Leeds Digital Festival, 8am on Monday 21 September at the NatWest Accelerator. Free.

Interested to hear whether this rings true for anyone running a small team.

We hear it a lot: "we tried AI and it didn't do much". Usually it is not the AI, it is being asked to do the strategy instead of the graft. Jonny wrote up what actually works with AI in your marketing. Worth a read. What has your experience been?

The same pen becomes priceless with the right story.

A pen owned by Madonna is worth more than an identical pen from a drawer. 🎀

Why?

Because of the story attached to it.

The association.

The meaning.

That is a useful reminder for businesses.

In crowded markets, products and services can start to feel very similar. πŸ‘€

If buyers cannot see a meaningful difference, they often compare on price.

But brand helps create that difference.

It gives people something to remember.

It can build:

βœ… Trust
βœ… Preference
βœ… Emotional connection
βœ… A stronger reason to choose you
βœ… Value beyond the functional product or service

Why brand matters more in an AI world, with Sandra Phillipson

Do you think people buy the product, or the meaning behind it?

A toy money box taught me more about brand loyalty than most campaigns.

When I was seven, I opened a Halifax account and got one of those little house money boxes. 🏦

It was simple.

But it stuck.

And that is the point.

Great brand experiences are not always huge, expensive or complicated.

Sometimes they are small moments that create a strong memory.

That memory can influence how people feel about a brand for years. πŸ‘€

For businesses, this matters.

Your brand is built through every interaction:

βœ… The first impression
βœ… The onboarding experience
βœ… The follow-up
βœ… The little details
βœ… The feeling people are left with
βœ… The stories they remember

What brand experience has stuck with you for years?

AI can copy your category. It cannot critique your brand like a human.

AI tools can be incredibly helpful for marketing.

But when it comes to brand, there is a risk. πŸ‘€

If everyone in your sector asks AI for branding advice, many businesses may start sounding very similar.

Professional.

Clear.

But not very distinctive.

And brand needs distinctiveness. πŸš€

It needs:

βœ… Human judgement
βœ… Customer understanding
βœ… Commercial context
βœ… Personality
βœ… A clear point of view
βœ… The confidence to sound different

AI can help generate ideas.

But it should not be the final decision-maker for your brand.

That is where human critique matters.

Would you trust AI to shape your brand, or only support the process?

Your best blog posts might be under-optimised.

If you have articles already getting traffic, they may be the best place to start. πŸ‘€

Instead of only creating new content, improve the content that is already working.

Look at your top-performing posts and add:

βœ… Updated statistics
βœ… Recent trends
βœ… Credible citations
βœ… Useful external links
βœ… Internal links
βœ… Expert references
βœ… Clearer examples

This can help strengthen trust and authority.

It also gives you a good reason to reshare older content. πŸš€

AI search tools can help find useful sources, but always verify them before adding anything to your website.

When did you last update your best-performing blog posts?

Your phone might already be your best content assistant.

Before signing up for another transcription app, check what your phone can already do. πŸ‘€

Many modern phones now have built-in features for recording, transcribing or summarising audio.

That can be really useful after meetings, events or client conversations.

Because those conversations often contain:

βœ… Great questions
βœ… Useful answers
βœ… Common objections
βœ… Project lessons
βœ… Event takeaways
βœ… Helpful explanations

With a transcript, you can turn that insight into:

Website FAQs.
Blog posts.
Round-up articles.
Reports.
Social posts.
Sales resources.

But use it properly. πŸ”’

Always get consent where needed.
Protect confidential information.
Remove client details.
Check where recordings and transcripts are stored.

Are you using meeting transcripts to create better content?

Your image is the movie poster for your content.

Before someone reads your blog, page or post, they usually see the image first. πŸ‘€

That image can make them stop.

Or scroll straight past.

So treat it with care.

Ask yourself:

Would my ideal client understand this?
Does it support the message?
Does it feel relevant?
Does it look credible?

Then make sure the basics are completed properly:

βœ… Image alt text
βœ… Image title
βœ… Clear file name
βœ… Relevant visual
βœ… Message aligned to the right audience

This helps with accessibility, engagement and search visibility.

But most importantly, it helps real people understand why your content matters. πŸš€

Do you choose images strategically, or leave them until the end?

27/08/2026

Your homepage has five seconds to earn attention.

When someone lands on your website, they should quickly understand:

βœ… What you do
βœ… Who you help
βœ… Why they should choose you

If they can’t, your homepage headline may be costing you enquiries. πŸ‘€

A good value statement should be clear, simple and written in your customer’s language.

Not packed with jargon.

Not trying too hard to sound clever.

Just useful.

Try this exercise:

Read your homepage headline out loud.

Then ask:

β€œWould my ideal client instantly understand this?” πŸ€”

If not, rewrite it.

#57 You Already Have the Authority Google Wants. Your Site Just Isn't Showing It
