I have always struggled to find time to draw for myself with any kind of job going on - either part-time or full-time. I guess, it depends on the job as well, but it’s not uncommon to not want to do anything remotely creative after hours.

Many of my projects never saw daylight because of it.

Does anyone have a similar issue?

You know that story about two frogs and a milk vat.

Searching for food, they *inadvertently* jumped in the vat. The edges were too slippery for them to get out. One gave up and died, the other churned the milk into butter and survived? Not even sure why, technically the butter is slippery too. Didn’t question that part when I was a kid :)

Fast forward 20 years, I feel like I need a sequel.

The frog gets out and rethinks its priorities in some nice swamp for like 2 weeks. Stretches it out in a pose after it’s name. Visits the grave of the deceased brother. Vows to begin a vat awareness campaign among other frogs. Launches annual “milk into butter” competition to commemorate this historic feat and pass the skill around.

Or maybe just learns the frogging lesson and stays away from vats of milk forever.

Would be nice, isn’t it 🐸

If your process is good - doesnt matter how big or small the name you work with is, because your level of professionalism stays the same. The piece you see I did a while ago for an article about Fabric club music sets analysis through artificial intelligence and machine learning. I modelled the entire building by hand in the wireframe style, will post the timelapse later, check it out! :)

Design is like iceberg - most of the time people see the top part, which is the image itself 🧊

Everything else - time frames, budgets, Client wishes, having a "designers" block stays hidden below water. Which is the main reason I stopped judging other designs, unless its a must. I manage to walk past billboards, posters and ads every day without wondering whether the font could be better 🫠

Of course, I am still sensitive to beauty and often take photos of pretty images I see, but my focus is on a beauty exactly rather than a fault.

Same goes for Clients doodles. How many times I heard people apologizing for daring to try and draw what is it they want me to design, as if I am some kind of art police, while I am just happy they tried in the first place, cause now we understand each other better. I am not, I dont judge and I think its a beautiful habit. Or deformation professionelle.

3 TYPOGRAPHIC TRENDS I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IN 2022

Fashion, music art and design 2022 are interwoven with nostalgia, experimentalism and funk. Doom and gloom of pandemic leave us tired and seeking for a sweet escape of childhood years. Be it all colors and craze of the 90s or shine and glitter of the early 00, bring it on the table. We do live in 2022 however, and I predict that the rise of metaverse and all things NFT will keep 3D, AR and VR at the top of design charts. I will give a more in depth comment to each of those right below 👇

Trend #1: Back to 90s 😎

If you remember those old websites with simple geometric shapes, hell lot of colors and complete disregard for any design principles than you are as ancient as me 😂 We are now in the middle of this retro revival with a touch of minimalism to avoid overwhelming yet bring back a sense of familiriaty.

Trend #2: GSG - Glow, shine and glitter (more glitter!) 💫

Iridescence and blurry sparkles are all over and at the moment. Coupled with 3D and dreamy cloud backgrounds, shiny fonts look modern, fresh and versatile. Even serif fonts have joined this bandwagon and I couldnt be happier - gothic font and chrome look wonderful together.

Trend type 🎥

From to , 3D type is all over music videos and movies right now. I think we will see even more interesting 3D based trends in the future - for instance, 3D + 2D, 3D + VR/AR, 3D in moton, etc.

Мода, музыка и дизайн 22-го пропитаны ностальгией, экспериментаторством и фанком. Несколько лет непрекращающейся пандемии и потребность в безопасности толкают нас в эскапизм детских лет. Будь то цвета и сумасшествие 90-х или сияние и блеск начала 00-х, тащите все. Тем не менее на дворе уже 22 и я думаю, что развитие метавселенной еще долго будет удерживать 3D, AR и VR на вершине дизайн-чартов. Подробнее обо всем перечисленном в комментариях 👇👇👇

into my final .io
project, is on the way! 🦄

I wanted to create something futuristic, otherwordly in a sense. Tattoine planet from Star Wars and Middle Eastern architectural stylistic inspired me a lot.

The challenge was to keep everything compact since I didnt want to expand the city beyond the crescent moon shape, which is how I came up with ideas to make the garden a part of the left wing and the flag stand - a part of the right with the star ships parking located in the middle 🚀

Maybe I should have become an architect😄 For now I remain a certified 3D designer 😊

По заданию, нужно было создать город с анимированными объектами. Скоро покажу вам рил, а пока что пускай будут скриншотики 🦄

Вдохновлялась в основном Татуином и восточной архитектурной стилистикой. В условиях пустыни не хотелось слишком разносить город в пространстве, поэтому придумала способ, как включить сад, флаги и стоянку для кораблей в форму лунного серпа🌛 Получился многофункциональный объект + усиление ассоциации с Востоком - такой вин-вин 😏

В процессе задумалась о карьере архитектора😅 А пока уже дипломированный 3д дизайнер 😁

Фрилансер или агенство: кого взять на проект? Ответить на этот вопрос непросто, ведь и у тех, и у других есть плюсы и минусы, но я постараюсь.

Агенство

➕ Разнообразие креативных направлений и профессионалов, официальное сотрудничество, дополнительные услуги (настройка рекламы, брендинг и т.д.).

➖ Медленнее и дороже (обычно).

Фриланс

➕ Быстрота взаимодействия, дешевле, чем агенство, возможность коммуницировать и вносить правки напрямую, официальное сотрудничество, возможность связаться во внеурочное время (например, на выходных).

➖ неофициальное сотрудничество, отсутствие дополнительных услуг.

Сейчас, наверное раздастся крик в ночи от коллег, что я все сильно упростила 😅 И в какой-то мере они будут правы. Не все фрилы готовы выходить в воскресенье, а некоторые из нас ставят ценник вровень с агентским. Однако, в целом, в отличие от агенства, фрилам не нужно содержать штат сотрудников, либо проходить через круги (ада) согласований просто, чтобы показать Клиенту, как оно смотрится с зелененькой кнопочкой или другим шрифтом. С другой стороны, агенствам куда проще подсуетить вам 3дшников\иллюстраторов\рекламщиков\фотографов\продолжите ряд, в то время, как фрилансер - это скорее нишевый вариант. Поэтому выбирайте в зависимости от ваших возможностей и потребностей 😌

Freelancer or design agency: who to hire for the project? It is not easy to answer this question, because both have pros and cons, but I will try. Let's begin with agency.

➕ Variety of creative professionals, legal contract, additional services (advertising, branding, etc.).

➖ Slower and more expensive (usually).

Freelance:

➕ Quicker, cheaper (usually), direct communication with designer, legal contract, after-hours tweaks.

➖ lack of additional services and legal contract (depends, yet entirely possible).

Now, surely not all freelancers are ready to work on Sunday, and some of them might ask you to pay as much as agency would. However, generally speaking, freelancers have only one employee to take care of and dont need to go through 9 circles of hell just to show you how the banner would look like with green button or another font.

Текст и картинки часто используют вместе. Изображения считываются быстрее и толкуются шире, чем текст, который имеет более ограниченную интерпретацию, но зато обеспечивает более надежную трансляцию смыслов.

☝️Получается, что правильно подобранное сочетание текста, шрифта и картинки усиливает эффект и многогранность коммуникации. Лично я фанатка всяких интересных сочетаний на этом стыке и сегодня рассказываю и показываю фьюжн*.

🖌 Фьюжн - это слияние картинки и текста в одно целое, которое помогает визуально усилить нужный эффект, а также сделать его более многогранным. Например, идея внедрить очки thug life в композицию - это такой способ подперчить и развеселить заезженное би кул, сохраняя при этом тон самой фразы :)

🤔Как вам этот метод?

Text and pictures are often used together. Images are perceived faster and interpreted more broadly than text, which is slower but provides a rather reliable transfer of meanings.

☝️Combining text, font and picture intelligently can enhance the effect and versatility of your communication. Personally, I love mixing up together all three which is why today I'd like to write about and show an example of that, based on fusion method*.

🖌Fusion* is one of the four main working modes of type+picture, essentially being a mesh of both. In my example, throwing thug life glasses into composition helps to spice up and de-serious "be cool", while not writing along any additional explanations like "please dont take being cool too seriously" :)

Привет меня зовут Саша и Я ДИЗАЙНЕР.

Кажется года 2 назад началась эта фишка. То ли потому, что после долгих поисков удалось наконец устроиться, то ли потому, что фраза "я-дизайнер" казалась доказательным лейблом человека креативноинтересного. В любом случае, зачастую новое знакомство начинала именно так. Недавно я прекратила это делать по следующим причинам.

Причина 1: Я не 🙅‍♀️ моя работа

Заявляя о своей должности в первые минуты знакомства, я автоматически фокус беседы на рабочий аспект своей жизни. Получается я дизайнер не только в рабочее время, но и после него, что уже какая-то нехилая переработочка.

Причина 2: Тревожность 😩

Сильная привязка личности к моей  профессиональной деятельности повышает тревожность. К риску потерять работу либо Клиента добавляется риск как бы потерять саму себя и свалиться в экзистенциальные метания на тему предназначения и смысла. Приходится глубоко дышать и напоминать себе, что и официанткой жизнь прекрасна 😊

Причина 3: Шаблонные разговоры 🤡

Со временем, я начала замечать, что без приставки "я-дизайнер", общение становится более органичным и интересным. Больше не нужно выдавать заготовленный абзац о том на кого/как долго и что по деньгам, а потом разочарованно скучать от одинаковых бесед.
