Josey Scott, the original frontman of Saliva and co-writer of the iconic post-9/11 anthem "Hero" is appealing for public help after a trailer containing his band's touring equipment was stolen.

The theft occurred as the band took a short break between tour legs, having recently wrapped shows marking the 25th anniversary of their platinum album Every Six Seconds. With dates scheduled to resume next month, the timing couldn't be worse.

Scott shared details of the incident on social media, urging fans and local community members to stay alert and pass on any information to local authorities.

This is the reality of equipment theft in the live events industry.

Equipment theft doesn't wait for a convenient moment, and for touring acts, the gap between dates can be just as exposed as the road itself.

A Queen tribute act had their van, and £13,000 worth of equipment, stolen while performing at a venue in Sutton Coldfield.

Supersonic Queen discovered their Ford Transit had been taken just an hour before showtime; inside was their PA system, lighting rig, staging, props, instruments, and merchandise built up over five years of touring.

CCTV captured two masked individuals driving the vehicle away at around 7.50pm on April 3.

The band were forced to cancel a show in Maidstone due to the loss of their PA and lighting.

The van was covered by their insurance, but the equipment inside wasn't.

This is the reality of equipment theft in the live events industry.

It's not just a financial loss - it disrupts schedules, impacts livelihoods, and can stop a tour entirely.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help them rebuild.

Not by doing more, but by doing the basics consistently.

Keep equipment out of sight in vehicles.
Use physical security, tracking, and clearly marked cases.
Maintain accurate inventories with serial numbers.
Assign responsibility during transitions.
Back up data daily.

Security isn’t a single action; it’s a system.

Small habits, applied consistently, make a measurable difference.

A school marching band had instruments stolen from their trailer during a trip to Disney World.

The Ashland High School Marching Band arrived at their Orlando hotel after a 22-hour journey to discover locks had been removed from their equipment trailer.

Around 20% of instruments were missing, most personally owned by students.

Staff spent the next 24 hours sourcing replacements from local music stores and borrowing a saxophone from another band at the resort to ensure every student could still perform.

Theft doesn't only mean lost equipment; it means unplanned cost, hours of disruption, and a race against the clock to recover.. even when the show goes on.

1 in 4 UK musicians has had gear stolen, and when it goes, it rarely comes back.

Fewer than half of stolen items are ever recovered, and in many cases, they’re listed for resale within hours.

This isn’t bad luck, it’s a pattern.

High-value, portable equipment is being targeted and moved on fast.

For a large part of the industry, this is a sad reality.
