Gadi Evron started his life in security as a lead analyst in the Israel Defence Forces’ famed Unit 8200, doing signals intelligence and hacking. He then moved to managing the nation’s computer emergency response team (CERT), and was the Founding Chairman of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Alliance (CTIA).

He’s now in business on his own and launched many organisations, including his most recent – dubbed Knostic – which is focused on enterprise use of AI agents safely. He told us that he prefers working with smaller, tightly knit groups of security folks, but this year branched out into [un]prompted, because sometimes you need a lot of people to get together and share knowledge.

We’re not totally sure if Marcelo Tamassia, Global Chief Technology Officer of Syntax, was a diver in his past, but if not then he’s come up with one of the more striking metaphors for enterprise AI adoption. “I think of it as a little like diving: when you leave the board, you can only see so many yards in front of you.”

At start, he explains, your field of view is dominated by technology. So you “sign up for OpenAI, ChatGPT, Anthropic or another model provider and assume that having access to the technology solves the problem”.

Then they go deeper, says Marcelo, and “discover that integration alone doesn’t make AI work in an enterprise environment. They need governance. They need to understand security and trust.”

And so the journey continues, at which point many companies are possibly consumed by the whirlpool of AI despair. That’s our metaphor, not Marcelo’s, because if you immerse yourself in this interview – part of our series Conversations on AI – then you will hopefully start to see the wider picture.

Before you dive in yourself, a brief word on why you should listen to Marcelo at all. First, he’s been there, seen it and bought the swimsuit over a 20-year career – including being Co-Founder of EmeraldCube Solutions, before it was acquired by Syntax in 2019.

He now leads Syntax’s AWS cloud practice and software R&D, having previously managed global ERP projects, and holds advanced certifications from AWS, Oracle and Microsoft.

How can you prove to auditors that your organisation’s software conforms with security, governance and privacy requirements?

If you answered, “we test it and show auditors the results,” you may be missing the mark when it comes to the relationship between software testing and audits. On their own, test results are evidence of little more than the fact that you ran tests.

True alignment between software testing strategies and audit-friendly operations requires a more detailed and nuanced approach to leveraging the evidence produced by tests. The sooner businesses step up to this challenge, the better positioned they are to thrive in an era when audits are becoming increasingly complex.

Cisco, via its company Splunk , recently released a massive study called the State of Observability 2026 report. The report highlights a growing problem for businesses. AI agents can get the work done but are creating unpredictable outcomes and costs.

Imagine hiring a team of assistants to work around the clock. At first it seems like a productivity masterstroke. Now give them company credit cards, access to business systems and permission to act without consulting you first. That’s when the bills start arriving. One assistant has bought three software subscriptions to solve the same problem. Another has booked non-refundable flights before the client confirms the meeting. A third, eager to resolve a customer complaint, has emailed an internal spreadsheet without noticing it contains other customers’ personal details.

They were trying to get the job done. But you gave them spending power without limits, responsibility without supervision and access without boundaries.

The missing ingredient was oversight.

A Cisco Splunk report reveals how autonomous AI agents are creating hidden costs, security risks, and unpredictable outcomes for businesses.

There’s nothing quite like going big. Harness says that it is “on a mission to enable 37 million software developers and billions of coding agents to deliver code quickly, reliably, efficiently, and securely”. Easy! And one key person behind this mission is Adam Arellano, the Field Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Harness, whom we interview here as part of our Conversations on AI series.

We expected bold answers to our questions merely from Adam’s bold hairstyle, and we weren’t disappointed. He starts with a stark divide: those “power users” who embrace AI will “be enhanced in ways that are just amazing… there’s a small group that’s going to turn out to be 500% more productive”. But he doesn’t believe that most people are going to see a “dynamic enhancement” of their skills. Turns out you have to put the work in.

He also points out that implementing AI into your company’s workflow isn’t necessarily going to be an instant hit. At Harness itself, it took some time to prepare the groundwork – “to set up our engineering pipeline properly” – but now that this foundation has been laid, it’s acceleration all the way.

Adam saves his longest answer to the question “What is the biggest misconception enterprise customers still have about adopting AI within business-critical software?” His first response: that he could write a book on the subject. Fortunately, he kept his answer here rather more concise: that they expect “that it is going to behave as they expect it to”. We’ll let you enjoy his fuller answer below!

Oracle and AstraZeneca have announced plans to explore how AI and real-world health data can help clinicians identify patients for clinical trials, accelerate research and bring scientific insights into everyday care.

More than half of enterprises are struggling to control AI costs, with unexpected billing spikes creating greater operational strain than high baseline expenses, according to new research from Cisco.

The Splunk State of Observability 2026 report found that 60% of respondents said unexpected billing spikes caused more operational strain than baseline costs, while 55% said they were unable to control AI spending as usage increased and became harder to predict.
