Picked up a really interesting project. Repair and refurb of a Pioneer SX434 Tuner. This classic Tuner launched in 1974 and ran till 1976 retailing at around $230.

Unit wont turn on. Initial diagnosis is on the AC voltage selector switch. Once this is resolved then its a full service and capacitor replacement to critical parts.

Lots of switch cleaning and greasing on this one.

Stay tuned :)

Just completed a repait to a Lenovo 4k AIO desktop. Great machine with a beautifull display.

Machine failed to boot and multiple issues seen in the power management area. I was unable to replace the semiconductors so I seapped the board.

Back to its former glory.

Working on an ASUS laptop with some liquid damage, tea apparently. The machine will not power on. I was able to secure the customers data. So thats good and reassuring.

You can see the corrosion developing rapidly. Putting the board through a deep cleaner and hopefully this will clear the issue. Keep you all posted.

Rather satifying repair to a dead 12TB ZFS SATA drive. Unit came to me dead with no spinning motor.

Diagnostic confirmed that the motor drive circuit was faulty and sadly replacement semi-conductors are impossible to find.

Quite a simple solution. Ordered a working replacement board and swapped over the ROM chips from the old to the new board.

The ROM chips store the manufacturer calibration data, motor control instructions, and pre-boot initialization code.

You have to swap the ROM chips for this to work as they data held in the ROMs is specific to the drive motor and read/write heads.

Great outcome, 12TB disk back online. Customer very excited as the disk held a load of critical and personal data.

Working through a boot up issue on an Apple MacBook Air. Device came to me with sluggish performance and random boot issues.

Liquid and laptops really don't mix. The corrosion is around the 5v standby power supply, which happens to be next to the 256 GB Solid State Drive. That'll be the problem.

So after a good board clean up we are back in business for now. Still a lot of testing to be done to ensure issue has gone.
