Unfortunately, after 5 years we have decided to close down Tribd. Those who use the app, or follow us on social media may ask “why?”.
The answer is simple, but the decision was boiling for the past couple of years.

When we launched in 2018, we have had a great and promising start. Our startup story was even captured and featured in British Airways in flight magazine and social media.

Tribd was one of the semi-finalists in the “future of travel” competition, we’ve been growing and matching people around the world with adventure buddies ever since.

But… as you know 2020 was a dead year for travel, and so was 2021. These past two years have hit us hard.

Moreover, we do not have any venture capital funding, Tribd is fully self-funded and bootstrapped venture. And unfortunately, our costs to support the business outweigh any revenue. We simply had to make the hard decision based on facts, rather than hopes.

For a social network like Tribd, 6000+ users on the app, are not significant enough. We need 600,000 users. I can write here a lot about growing and scaling social networks, but that is probably not relevant now.

Tribd is still on the App Store, but not for long. So, if you are looking for a travel buddy, make the most of it! You get 10 free swipes every 24hrs.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Have you heard of “forest bathing”?

The term refers to “shinrin yoku” - a Japanese way of relaxation through taking in the atmosphere of the forest, and breathing in wood essential oils, containing antimicrobial organic compounds. It’s a way of healing through “five senses experience” (vision, smell, hearing, touch, and taste) when the body is exposed to a forest environment.

There are multiple empirical studies conducted in Japan, that “forest bathing - taking in the atmosphere of the forest” (no strenuous activity needed) helps to alleviate physical symptoms of stress and sub-health by reducing the levels of cortisol, blood pressure, pulse rate, calms nervous system and boost our immune system.

If you’re working and/or living in a highly stressful environment, you might be experiencing symptoms of burnout, fatigue, poor sleep quality, forgetfulness, physical pain. All these are described as a state of “sub-health” - a state between a health and disease.

In Japan, “forest bathing” is also prescribed as a preventative healthcare measure.

Besides the catchy term, this is nothing else than spending more time outdoors and outside of the city, but backed by empirical studies on benefits of unplugging and being in nature.

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings.”

Organised retreats costing your monthly salary, offering yoga, meditation, vegan eating, group activities, time slots to rest in between… are NOT WHAT YOU need to recharge and properly unplug. You need time alone, time to yourself, no alarm clock, no schedule, letting your body to tell you what it feels like doing, letting your mind to completely unplug. Read a fiction novel, enjoy long coffees, walks, naps, beach breaks or slow walks. Moderate activities. Clear your mind, be present in a moment, go with the flow is WHAT YOU NEED.

Ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge) = Ayurveda.

The 3000 years old natural system of medicine developed and practiced in India to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment.

Ayurveda treatment includes an internal purification process, a special diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation.

The history of Ayurveda practices in India is fascinating. With colonialism much of the Ashtanga Hridaya, “the bible” of Ayurveda has been wiped out of Northern India, but in Kerala the knowledge of Ayurveda has been preserved.

Whilst you can find Ayurveda retreats across India, from Himalayas to Goa, some of the best Ayurveda retreats are indeed in Kerala, which is also one of the most beautiful states in India. 🇮🇳🌴
