TW: Sexual Assault/harassment/homophobia/rape.
These are stories from a survey I conducted where I asked people to share their experiences of sexual assault/harassment during nights out. Adjusting to navigating London life as a young woman who enjoys her music has been, a lot. I’ve got hundreds of my own stories. But hearing that so many others had similar experiences, while terrifying, helped me feel less alone. So I’ve made ‘Why Men Need to Help Make Nightlife Safer’, a sequel to the previous comic to apply context for why I felt there was a desperate need for men to actively help protect womxn and q***r people during club nights. I wanted this project to go beyond what WE have to do to protect ourselves, because we’re already actively doing it. What are YOU going to do. What conversations are YOU going to have with your friends, your coworkers, your family, even strangers about club etiquette. A lot of this could be resolved by shining light on nuances. Yes, some people love the attention, but some people really fu***ng don’t. I have much more to share from all the amazing, beautiful and brave queens who shares their stories, so this will probably be a lil series :-) would you be interested in physical copies of these comics? 💖
