Some clever sod said this on the internet the other day..
“…professionalism is always a joy to “do” but if friendliness is not part of the picture too, then it’s just not worth it. We’re not robots, leave the perfection goals to a robot. Help people who are a joy to help and do a bloody good job of enjoying it whilst you’re at it. Probably, “productivity” will have occurred in amongst all of that, if not, you won’t get asked back and that’s like the perfect automatic cleansing device. If you can’t help decent people and be rewarded graciously for it, you haven’t got a going concern, a business, or anything you care to call it. My most “successful” periods were when having fun making customers happy was a given. Protect that from anything that reduces that.… you can not allow anything to turn what you love to do into something you don’t like to do. I have found it always comes back to people, not thoughts, not burnout. Someone gets into your head and convinces you that you haven’t helped. They’re cutting your throat. You can not afford to keep them, you CAN afford to loose them. No matter how it looks. Be brave, be you. People look for a skill set and they hire a person.”
