The Yapily Summer Party 🥳 took place last Friday. From a tug-of-war between the engineering team and others to Cypriot "fetch the towel" games and ultimate frisbee🥏, it was a day full of fun, laughter, and team bonding.

The evening was topped off with a BBQ 🍔 & beer 🍻 with music 🎶 in Regents park. Some colleagues from Lithuania 🇱🇹 referred to it as the Yapily festival!🧑‍🎤 Next Glastonbury? Watch this space 🙈

It was an incredible first day at London Tech Week 2024 with a wealth of insights, knowledge sharing and connections.

🎤 The Centre Stage showcased a session on Open Banking & Embedded Finance. Many thanks to Finexos for the key takeaways summary below.

💳 Dina Rudaka moderated the discussion on 'Open Banking & the Rise of Embedded Finance' between ✯ Helen Child ✯ of Open Banking Excellence (OBE), our CEO, Stefano Vaccino and Ben Thirlwall of Stripe:

✴ Looking at the position to lend with transaction data rather than historical data has hugely positive impacts for society. SME lending is particularly exciting for the future, it has been an underserved sector and we can expect to see developments this year.
✴ There needs to be a sustainable commercial model. Premium APIs are the next step and a key opportunity between third-party providers, banks and regulators. Expect Premium APIs to become a reality this year. The difficulty is not technical, its around standards and defining a common practice.
✴ UK open banking standards are used in two thirds of countries that implement standards, helping ensure interoperability. Interoperability is more important than regulations.
✴ Other countries have learnt from the UK as a first mover but also from mistakes and tailored to their local needs. The UK needs to lace-up its trainers to stay at the forefront.
✴ The US standards being developed at present will be different. Keep a watch on what will happen, the UK will be working to ensure interoperability.
✴ It’s important to learn iteratively and engage with regulators. Open banking success will be when we use it twenty times a day without realising it and forget about the name.
