Microsoft's Datacenters Go Green with Wood! 🌲
Microsoft is pioneering the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) in two new datacenters in Virginia as part of its push to reduce carbon emissions. By swapping out traditional steel and concrete for this innovative, fire-resistant engineered wood, Microsoft expects to cut the buildings’ carbon footprint by 35-65%. This is a big step forward in their goal to be carbon negative by 2030!
CLT, long popular in green construction, offers strength, sustainability, and durability. Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund also supports tech like low-carbon concrete and hydrogen-based steel production, accelerating low-carbon materials and green energy solutions across industries.
From investing in clean technology to rethinking construction methods, Microsoft is committed to leading the way in sustainable tech. 💚
