Recent research from anti-malware software provider Malwarebytes shows that 44% of mobile users report being exposed to scams and threats on a daily basis.

Of the 1,300 adults surveyed from the US, UK, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, 66% stated that it's increasingly complex to spot a scam, with 36% claiming they'd experienced a malware infection.

Media reports suggest that M&S has attributed its recent cyber incident to human error, a common root cause of cyber attacks. In fact, research shows that up to 98% of cyber incidents involve some form of social engineering.

While the exact details remain unclear, this should serve as a wake-up call for businesses of all sizes: cybersecurity training and awareness must be ongoing, relevant, updated, and enforced across all roles — not just those with technical responsibilities or elevated access. Too often, non-technical employees receive a one-off training session during onboarding and nothing more.

Solutions like Breach Defence help businesses maintain strong cybersecurity practices by keeping training current, policies enforced, and employees actively engaged in protecting themselves and the organisation from evolving threats.

📱 A hacker boasts about stealing $860K from a victim through SIM-swapping.

SIM-swapping is a type of attack where a cybercriminal tricks a mobile provider into issuing a new SIM card linked to the victim’s phone number — but sent to the hacker’s address. This is usually done using compromised personal data, allowing the attacker to impersonate the victim and bypass standard security checks.

Once the hacker controls the SIM, they can intercept text messages and calls — including two-factor authentication (2FA) codes — giving them access to sensitive accounts like banking, crypto wallets, and email.

How to Stay Protected:

- Set up a PIN or passcode with your mobile provider to add a layer of security.
- Where possible, use app-based authentication (like Google Authenticator) instead of SMS-based 2FA.
- Stay alert to phishing scams — never share personal information or login credentials via email or text.

Our cyber risk advisory team and award-winning cyber risk software help policyholders worldwide reduce personal cyber risks — including threats like SIM-swapping.

Apple has released a new round of security updates after discovering two zero-day vulnerabilities (CVE-2025-31200 and CVE-2025-31201) that were exploited in what’s been described as an "extremely sophisticated attack" targeting specific iPhones. These flaws affect iOS, macOS, tvOS, iPadOS, and visionOS.

If exploited, the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to take control of a device—potentially stealing data and credentials, installing malware, and bypassing key security protections.

Both issues have been patched in the latest versions:

- iOS 18.4.1
- iPadOS 18.4.1
- tvOS 18.4.1
- macOS Sequoia 15.4.1
- visionOS 2.4.1

We strongly recommend updating your devices as soon as possible and encouraging customers to do the same to reduce exposure to these risks.

WhatsApp Issues Urgent Security Warning for Windows Users ⚠️

- A newly disclosed vulnerability, CVE-2025-30401, may put millions of devices at risk.

- The flaw allows attackers to disguise malware as an image file—a technique known as spoofing—which could be used to gain unauthorised access to a user’s computer.

How it works:

- WhatsApp for Windows previously displayed file attachments based on their label (MIME type), but opened them based on their file extension.

- This mismatch could allow attackers to send a file that appears to be a safe image but actually contains malicious code.

Has it been exploited?

- The vulnerability was identified through Meta’s bug bounty program, and there is currently no evidence it has been exploited in the wild. However, it presents a significant risk, particularly for malware and spyware delivery

What should you (and your customers) do?

- All Windows users should immediately check and update WhatsApp to ensure they are running version 2.2450.6 or later. Updates are available through the Microsoft Store.

- It’s also important to share this update with colleagues, friends, customers, and policyholders to help reduce the risk across your network.
