Evening everyone!
I'd just like to say a huge thankyou to those of you who liked, commented and shared my announcement post! I really appreciate all the support and encouragement and we are off to a flying start!
So today, I thought I'd give you all an insight into my daily life and the kind of things that I deal with. The picture below is an old HP laptop which I have labelled. These are the things that usually take up a majority of my time.. along with dodgy monitors, data transfer (so if you've bought a new laptop and want the data off your old hard drive on your new one) and of course.. human error...
Number 1: Battery! These bad boys usually have a run time of around 4/5 hours if you're not using it.. which seems pointless to me when you can buy electric cars that run for 300 miles! Anyway.. Batteries are usually the first thing that deteriorates on a laptop so these will need changing probably after 18 months/2 years of you having it!
Number 2: Hard drive! This is how I know its an old laptop. If you buy a standard laptop and it comes with an HDD hard drive in 2020.. SEND IT BACK! Your Laptop will be as quick as lightning for the first 4 or 5 months then BANG! SNAIL! HDD hard drives have physical moving parts so over time, these parts slow down! (If you've had a Laptop for a few months and it takes AGES to turn on, this is probably why) You can however usually get HDD's in bigger sizes for cheaper than an SSD!
SSD (solid state drives) are the new quicker version of HDD's. No moving parts so hardly ever reduces speed of booting up or continuous work! But.. more expensive!
Number 3: Fans! Usually placed on top of the CPU in a desktop PC. These are used to cool everything inside the PC down to prevent overheating. If your Laptop or desktop is constantly shutting down for no reason, check to see if its really hot. If the fans aren't working correctly, the PC can shut down unexpectedly.. broken fans! So always save your work!!
Number 4: RAM! Random access memory! This works along side the CPU to process and save data about programmes that are currently open. When you're working away and your PC suddenly shuts down and you haven't saved your work but then you turn your PC back on and Microsoft Word says 'recover document'.. you can thank RAM for that! The more RAM you have, the more, larger programmes you can run at once. So, if you've got a mammoth of a excel spreadsheet open and it's taking ages to load, save or even open, you probably need more RAM!
Number 5: CPU! Probably the most important part about buying a 'quick' PC. Processors come in 2 different makes. You've got Intel and AMD. Kind of like comparing a lamborghini with a push bike.... Always use Intel! They usually come in 3 different sizes. I3, I5 AND I7. There is I9, but thats REALLY expensive! The higher the number, the faster your machine will.. process stuff.. obviously. But the higher you go, the more expensive they become.
And finally, number 6:USB ports! USB ports are a vital part of any laptop or dssktop. Without these, you couldn't plug in pen drives, external hard drives, docking stations or even them little fans you get for your desk in the summer!.. a very important addition to any work space. Ports usually never break, unless you are pulling your wires out at 90MPH and forcing USBs into them the wrong way..we've all done it! They are fragile but, just as important to any machine as the rest of components!
I hope you can continue to like and share my posts. Again, I really appreciate all the support so far on this journey!
