🐌 Is your laptop running slow? 🐌

Why not have the hard drive replaced with a blazing fast Solid-State drive (SSD)?

πŸ’¨ SSDs can give you a significant speed boost in a number of ways. SSDs typically boot in about 10-13 seconds compared to around 120 seconds with a standard hard drive.

As well as starting up quicker and loading games, apps, and movies faster, SSDs are also more durable, use less power, and produce less heat than HDDs πŸ’¨

Following a breach of the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange in 2016, a hacker allegedly stole nearly 120,000 Bitcoin worth about $5bn.

On Tuesday, officials arrested and charged two people with trying to launder the money, which is approximately 120,000 Bitcoin.

In 2016, hackers breached a cryptocurrency exchange and stole $71m.

As a result of the rise in Bitcoin's value, it is now valued at more than $5bn.

Asst. Attorney General Kenneth Polite, Jr. said the seizure demonstrated that the government "will not allow cryptocurrency to be a safe haven for money laundering or a zone of lawlessness within our financial system".

Ilya Lichtenstein, 34, of New York, allegedly ran a digital wallet allegedly run by a hacker who made over 2,000 unauthorised transactions on the platform.

Lichtenstein and his wife, Heather Morgan, 31, used various methods to cover their tracks, including creating fake identities or converting their Bitcoin into other currencies, to launder about 25,000 of the stolen bitcoins over the past five years.

Tel Aviv University's Prof Dino Levy and Prof Hanein lead a team that developed a new method for detecting lies.

There are two types of liars, according to this study: those who involuntarily move their eyebrows while telling a lie, and those who cannot control a very slight lip movement where their lips meet their cheeks.

They are currently able to detect 73% of lies with their software and algorithm and hope to increase that percentage as they develop their system. "When you try to conceal a lie, one of the things you try to avoid is any sort of body reaction," she says.

Prof Levy adds: "But it's very, very hard for you to conceal a lie with this technology."

Reports say criminals laundered Β£6.4bn of cryptocurrency in 2021, up by 30% from the previous year, a report by blockchain data company Chainalysis says.

Wallets controlled by ransomware attackers, malware operators, scammers, human traffickers, darknet market operators, and terrorist groups were tracked by Chainalysis.

A "huge blow" could be dealt by targeting services used to launder cryptocurrency by criminals, the report says. The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) said law enforcement are also responding.

Most cryptocurrency is laundered through a number of services - for example, particular exchanges and darknet services - and shutting these down could have a big impact.

A flying car with the ability to hit speeds over 100mph and altitudes above 8,000ft (2,500m) received an airworthiness certificate from Slovakia's Transport Authority.

The AirCar, a hybrid car-airplane, runs on regular fuel and is powered by a BMW engine.

It takes just 2 minutes and 15 seconds to convert from car to aircraft.
Klien Vision, the company responsible for the AirCar, said the certification followed 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 take-offs and landings.

"AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars," "It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever." its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said.

An undersea fibre-optic cable that connects Tonga to the world was severed during the eruption of a volcano.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand says it could take more than a month to repair the 49,889km (31,000 miles) of cable in the South Pacific.

As a result of the undersea eruption, Tonga's 110,000 people were cut off from the outside world.

With the aid of a satellite dish from the University of the South Pacific, a 2G wireless connection has been established on the main island. However, Internet service is unreliable, and it runs slowly overall.

How's the cable gonna' be fixed?

According to Virgin Media's principal engineer, Peter Jamieson, who is also vice-chairman of the European Subsea Cable Association, the process for repairing it is actually quite simple.

"They will send a pulse of light from the island and a machine will measure how long it takes to travel and this will establish where the break is," he explained.

Then a cable-repair boat will be dispatched to the site of the first break.

An ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle) or a grabnel (basically a hook attached to a chain) will be used to retrieve the broken end.

Those cables will then be re-joined to fresh cables aboard the boat and the same process will take place at the other end. Depending on how things go, the process will take between five and seven days.

Facebook and Instagram's parent company is working on plans to let users create and sell non-fungible tokens in an effort to cash in on the digital collectible craze.

According to multiple sources, the teams are working on a feature that would allow users to display their NFTs on their profiles, as well as designing a prototype to help users create the collectible tokens.

Meta has also discussed starting a market for consumers to purchase and sell NFTs - essentially digital assets that are unique or cannot be replicated. Mark Zuckerberg said that next-generation thin films could be used to support a market for digital goods in it planned metaverse, an avatar-filled world in which the company would invest $10 billion annually over the next decade.

A dispute over payment fees between Amazon and Visa continues, as the two sides attempt to resolve a dispute over blocking UK Visa credit card payments this week.

Visa said it was "working closely to reach an agreement". Visa payment costs were seen by Amazon as "an obstacle" to providing the best prices for customers.

"The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19," Amazon stated.

The companies have not indicated when they expect the negotiations to conclude. Amazon said on Monday that it was working closely with Visa on "a possible solution that will allow customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk".

It was stated, however, that Amazon and Visa's conflict had nothing to do with the UK leaving the EU.

Apple is experiencing overheating, camera, and software issues with its AR/VR headset, said a Friday report, which may push back its plans to unveil its Mixed Reality headset this year. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman is back with more information about the product.

According to Bloomberg, Gurman previously stated that Apple's AR/VR headset will be "pricey." Although analysts were predicting a cost of around $3,000, Gurman writes in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple has discussed prices above $2,000 so far.

Since Apple charges a bit more for its products than its competitors, it has been able to lock in enormous profit margins, making it the most profitable consumer electronics company ever. As for the new headset, it will not be an exception, but the most important reason why the company is discussing a price point over $2,000 has to do with some of its internal technologies.

Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointed out that Apple's AR/VR headset will focus on gaming, media consumption, and communication.
