Arcarta Our Customer Due Diligence platform helps you avoid fines or losing clients due to AML while protect Everything is encrypted and stored for 5 years.

As the majority of Galleries deal with clients they know well and have dealt with for many years, their priority is to ‘tick the right boxes’, to avoid fines, prosecution or losing a client by going about things incorrectly. Arcarta’s art-specific tools help you satisfy Anti-Money Laundering requirements, minimise any possible involvement from your clients, while workflows guide you through the Du

e Diligence process for private clients, companies, museums and more. Customer Due Diligence reports are created automatically and clients can send their documents to you securely, which are attached to your reports and risk assessments. In Arcarta, you’re also connected to other Galleries, Dealers and Auctioneers, making it easy for you to securely share or request Customer Due Diligence records, while Reliance tools permit client privacy which can be useful when dealing with or acting as an agent. As it is not uncommon for a Gallery to have had no prior experience in compliance, Arcarta’s ‘Virtual Compliance Officer’ provides access to insight and guidance during due diligence, to help you make smarter decisions. Arcarta will also tell you if a new or unknown client with whom you’re dealing has taken part in Due Diligence with another Art business, or has purchased Art or Antiques before making it helpful in qualifying any unknown enquirer. When you’re ready to invoice your client, secure invoicing tools keep you and your clients safe from cybercriminals and invoice interception where passwords fail, while the facility to accept card payments remotely allow you to transact with confidence, protecting you from chargebacks, international currency conversion and broker fees.

The team is back from a week catching up with friends and clients in Berlin 🇩🇪

The conversation that came up most often wasn’t about a new artist or a sale. It was about the quiet shift some of the larger galleries are starting to make away from legacy tools and manual processes.

There’s a real reluctance, and we understand it. The fear is always that introducing too much structure will flatten the things that make this industry what it is.

What’s changing is that the inertia is becoming harder to justify - though often the shift is smaller and more familiar than it first appears.

“Galleries are not going to be the first adopters of any shiny new bit of tech. The Art market is uniquely people first, technology second.”

An insight you might not expect from someone building a new technology product for the art market.

But this approach - of listening first, and building alongside the galleries that use your product - creates tools that galleries actually want to use.

It’s a product philosophy we share and we’re proud to be in the art tech space alongside such interesting, innovative people.

This month’s episode of The Bigger Picture Podcast with First Thursday founder is a great listen for anyone thinking about the new wave of entrepreneurship in the art market. (Listen wherever you get your podcasts!)

How do you insure something when no one can agree what it’s worth?

This is the central challenge that makes art insurance unique - and it only gets more complicated as values change over time.

Chris Bentley, Head of Fine Art & Specie at AXA XL, explains how the sector has traditionally approached this problem, and how new technology might fundamentally change the relationship between insurers and collectors.

Is there enough support for art businesses trying to navigate compliance?

Or could regulators be doing more to clearly explain what’s required?

The vast majority of art businesses we speak to every day are making a genuine effort to comply with a complex web of rules and expectations, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to get right, especially without a legal background.

Five years on, the pressure on galleries to catch up is real - but so is the need for proper support if they are going to do it properly.

Over the past year, some of the biggest stories in the art world have centred on the provenance of artworks 🔍

Disputes over ownership, restitution claims, and major sales being questioned have made it clear that provenance research matters more than ever.

So we sat down with Angelina Giovani-Agha, co-founder of Flynn & Giovani provenance research agency to understand how it works in practice.

“With research, there are days we are at an absolute dead end, and sometimes it’s weeks when you’ve made no progress. But then, one day, you make progress, and you answer a question, and, in that moment, it pays off.”
