This one came in looking like it had lived inside a Dyson. Seriously. Dust, debris, dried thermal paste — the inside of this PS4 was basically a hoover bag.

Plugged it in to test and it was screaming. Thermal throttle alert within 2 minutes. Fan maxed out, temps in the red, and it would've shut itself down if we hadn't stopped it. The poor thing was suffocating.

The fix: Full internal clean, new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU, fan check, and a gentle reassembly. Now? Running cold, silent, and stable. No more panic shutdowns.

This is what happens when consoles don't get air. They don't last long. But they're fixable.

I keep saying it and I'll say it again, Mend My iPhone is a stupid name . I hardly ever repair iPhones these days.

Latest project :

Have a 'massager' in for repair cos it wore out and broke. It's a HUGE metal bodied DOXY, a permium brand wand that is known for breaking that costs a whopping £150.00

So I've not only been asked to mend it - I've also been asked to reverse engineer the board, improve it and redesign it.

So that means capturing it's firmare and re-writing it and making it better to be programmed onto a new chip, but cos this is someone else's product it also means rebuilding the motherboard from scratch and working out what's caused it to fail and then making it better by putting better components in circuit as a protection mechanism.

So far it's been diagnosed and I understand why it's failed. I also have a newl, loosely assembled 'Wand Team' of specialists helping me - cos this is a huge task.

Is it repairable - Yes.

But as this belongs to a customer I've had to buy myself an identical toy to play with - i mean take apart and test., obviously, so they can use theirs whilst I go off in my laboratory with the team and start to make new circuit boards and test components.

And all this cos I mended a Fish Feed Controller.

I may need a volunteer at some point to road test it for me if the project gets to testing stage - a pal of mine said 'You aren't coming anywhere near me with that thing" when she saw it was mains operated and nearly the length of my arm - tho I hadn't even suggested the idea !

Needless to say i won't be asking her lol

Does your PS5 shutdown randonly ?
Does it tell you it's overheating ?

This commonly caused by a few things, could be that your consoles internal cooling components such as fan, heatsinks and power supply are clogged with dirt and debris - the ususual household fluff anything with a fan at one end will suck in.

Once airflow is restricted it causes less heat to be dissapated and can casuse your console to shutdown to protect itself.

It could also be the fact that you store it vertically cos that's how they advertise it - but that's the worst way to have it positioned.

Whether you like it or not gravity will force the cooling product, liquid metal that is on the APU to work it's way towards the bottom of the chip over time causing a bald spot at the top.

Where this bald spot occurrs you will get no proper cooling and the device will shutdown to save thermal damage.

If you want to extend the life of your console have it serviced annually and if you've never had it done - book it in soon
