🎮 A Different Take on the Steam Machine…

One of two identical mini gaming PCs we’ve just put together for a customer who came to us with an interesting brief.

They liked the idea behind the Steam Machine – a simple, console-like gaming experience with SteamOS – but wanted to see what we could build for similar money that offered considerably more gaming performance, while keeping that same ease of use.

There was one other big requirement: proper PC upgradability.

The result is this compact little system built around the DeepCool CH260.

Obviously, it’s nowhere near as tiny as the Steam Machine – that’s one area where the Steam Machine definitely has the advantage – but for a fully fledged gaming PC using standard components, it still has a lovely small footprint.

The trade-off in size brings some pretty big advantages though. For similar money, this system packs a much more powerful Ryzen 7 5700X 8-core processor, 32GB of memory and Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics, along with the ability to upgrade individual components in the future rather than being tied to a fixed specification.

Running SteamOS, it boots straight into the familiar controller-friendly Steam interface, giving it that console-style simplicity the customer wanted while still having a proper, upgradeable PC underneath.
