The more we thought about the work we do, the clearer something became.

For us, design has always been about communication first.

Making a 60-page report feel manageable. Turning data into something people can understand. Giving a strategy structure. Helping someone find the information they actually need.

Making things clearer.

That idea has ended up shaping rather more than we expected.

Looking back at the projects we’ve enjoyed most, there’s a bit of a pattern.

Lots of content. Lots of stakeholders. Lots to communicate.

The kind of projects where graphic design needs to do more than make something look good.

It needs to organise, simplify and make sense of things.

Apparently, complicated is our thing.

We didn’t set out to find a niche. It just became obvious.

More and more of our work involves public sector and corporate communications, taking complex information and making it clear, engaging and easy to navigate.

Strategies. Reports. Consultation materials. Public information. Internal communications. Presentations.

And as our work has evolved, Pepperdog is evolving too.

More soon.

Design tip of the week 💡

A quick design tip for anyone creating reports, brochures or presentations...

If everything stands out, nothing stands out.

One of the simplest ways to make information easier to understand is to create a clear visual hierarchy. Use headings, subheadings and consistent spacing to guide the reader naturally through the content, rather than relying on bold text or bright colours everywhere.

It's a small change that can make a big difference—especially when you're communicating complex information.

Who else gets a little bit excited by a brand new notebook? 📒✨

I'm definitely one of those people. Whether it's for sketching ideas, meeting notes, to-do lists, random doodles, or those brilliant ideas that pop into your head at 2am... there's something satisfying about putting pen to paper.

I had these Pepperdog notebooks made for an event, and I've got 7 spares that I'd much rather see being used than sitting on a shelf.

So... I'm giving them away!

If you'd like one:

💬 Tell me what you'd use your notebook for in the comments
👥 Feel free to tag someone who loves stationery as much as you do!

I'll randomly pick 7 people next week and pop a notebook in the post.

And just for fun... what's the first thing you write on the first page of a new notebook? 😄

💡 Design Tip of the Week

Don't make your logo the biggest thing on the page.

It might seem surprising, but your audience isn't looking for your logo... they're looking for the information they need.

Headlines, key messages and calls to action should grab attention first, with your branding supporting the message rather than competing with it.

If people remember what you said and who said it, your design has done its job.

Less logo. More impact.

Sometimes it’s okay to knock off a little early.

Running a business often means long days, tight deadlines and a never-ending to-do list. But every now and then, it’s important to close the Mac, step away from the desk and make time for the things you enjoy.

Tonight we did exactly that and headed to Leeds Grand Theatre to see The Sound of Music. 🎭

Work will still be there Monday, but evenings like this are worth making time for.

I hope you’re all finding a little time this weekend to do something you love too. 😊

🔥 With wildfires making the news across the UK this week, it's a timely reminder that prevention starts with awareness.

Pepperdog is proud to work with West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service on their 'Be Moor Aware' campaign.

Using the campaign concept, we created the artwork for a range of materials designed to encourage people to think twice before lighting fires, using disposable BBQs or setting off fireworks on our beautiful moorlands.

Sometimes, graphic design is about much more than making something look good. It's about creating messages that people notice, remember and hopefully act upon.

With the hot, dry weather we've been experiencing, these messages feel just as important today as they did when the campaign launched.

We're proud to have played a small part in helping spread such an important public safety message.

💬 Have you ever seen a campaign that really stuck with you or changed the way you think about something? We'd love to hear about it in the comments.

Stay safe, and if you're heading out to enjoy the countryside this summer, please help protect it. ❤️🔥

Design tip of the week 💡

If someone has to ask "What am I supposed to do next?" your design probably isn't working as hard as it could.

Whether it's a brochure, poster, website or report, every piece of communication should have one clear purpose.

Ask yourself:
• What's the one message I want people to remember?
• What's the one action I want them to take?

If the answer isn't obvious, simplify. Good design isn't about adding more... it's about making the important things impossible to miss.
