⚠️ One of the most important messages we’re reinforcing is this:
If you spot something suspicious, tell your IT manager straight away.

There’s no blame and no judgement — reporting quickly is about protecting the business, safeguarding data, and keeping everyone safe.

Here are the key reminders:
🔍 Check the sender — Phishing often hides behind familiar names.
🔗 Pause before clicking — Hover over links and inspect them carefully. Do they look familiar?
📎 Be cautious with attachments — Unexpected files should always be treated as suspicious.
📣 Report immediately — Even if you’re unsure. Early warning helps prevent wider damage.

A strong security culture is built on openness, awareness, and fast action. When in doubt, speak up your IT team is there to help.

🔐 Cybersecurity: The “We’ll Do It Later” Task… Until Something Happens 😅

Let’s be honest — running a business means juggling everything: clients, deadlines, staffing, invoices, strategy… and somewhere on that list sits cybersecurity 👀.

But here’s the truth every business eventually learns:
Cyber threats don’t care how busy we are.

If anything, they count on it.

💬 “I thought the email was from accounting…”
💬 “I didn’t realise the link was fake…”
💬 “We meant to update the system last month…”

We’ve all said it. And that’s why simple, consistent habits matter:

✔ Double-check unusual emails
✔ Update software before it becomes a problem
✔ Use strong passwords (yes, even for the shared logins)
✔ Make sure your team knows what red flags look like
✔ Back up everything — because mistakes happen

Cybersecurity doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just has to be practiced.

Protect your business, your data, and your peace of mind. Future you will thank you.

🎄 Stay Safe Online This Christmas 🎁
As we head into the festive season, online shopping ramps up, and unfortunately, so do scams. Here are a few quick tips to help you stay safe while hunting for Christmas deals:

🔐 1. Stick to trusted websites
If a site is offering unbelievable discounts, pause and double-check. Look for secure payment methods, https:// in the URL, and reviews from real customers.

📧 2. Beware of phishing emails & texts
Scammers love sending “failed delivery” or “special offer” messages at this time of year. Never click unexpected links - visit the retailer’s website directly instead.

💳 3. Don’t save card details on unfamiliar sites
It might be convenient, but it’s safer to enter your details manually each time unless you know and trust the retailer.

💸 4. Watch out for fake sales & countdown timers
Some sites create urgency to make you buy fast. Compare prices on reputable retailers to make sure the deal is real.

📦 5. Track parcels safely
Delivery scams mimic Royal Mail, Evri, DPD, and others. Only track parcels using official apps or websites.

👤 6. Strengthen your account security
Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication wherever possible, especially for email and shopping accounts.

🎁 7. If it looks too good to be true… it probably is!
Luxury brands at 80% off or game consoles half-price? These are classic signs of scam websites.

Stay alert, shop smart, and enjoy the run-up to Christmas safely!

Sort video of the Monmouth Lantern parade! Great turn out and atmosphere even with the terrible weather! Apologies for some of the sound quality wind and rain don’t sound the best. My first time watching it and loved the effort put in.

Good afternoon all,

Here's today's bit of advice.

Daily IT Tip: Stay Suspicious Online!
One of the most powerful cybersecurity habits you can build is simple: healthy suspicion.

A great example of why this matters is the story behind The Lazarus Heist — the real-world cybercrime saga involving a highly skilled hacking group who used emails, fake job offers, and seemingly harmless links to infiltrate systems around the world. Stealing millions.
All it took was one person clicking something they shouldn’t.

Have a listen to the podcast by the same name, really interesting.

Here’s how you can stay safe:

🔍 Pause before you click
Links can be disguised to look legitimate. Hover over them to see where they really lead.

📩 Don’t trust unexpected emails
Even if it appears to come from a bank, delivery service, or even a coworker — attackers often mimic familiar senders.

🔑 Never enter passwords after clicking a link
If a site asks you to log in, go to it manually through your browser instead of using the link.

💼 Businesses: train your teams
Many of the biggest cyber-attacks started with a single compromised employee account.

Cybercriminals operate on a global scale using the same tricks to affect everyday people and small businesses too.

Stay alert. Stay sceptical. Stay safe.
If you’re unsure about a link or message, feel free to drop Monmouth IT a message — I’m here to help.
