Leigh’s mum – Angie - was a Community Palliative Care Specialist at Dougie Mac for 19 years but passed away on the hospice In-patient unit after being diagnosed with cancer.

“My mum was kind and faultless. She was a very caring nurse and loved her job – she always put everyone first and was incredibly honest. When she was admitted into the hospice she was treated like a queen. The staff made sure she was comfortable and took the pressure off us meaning we could simply just be with her.

“It must’ve been very difficult for the staff to look after my mum as they were her friends and colleagues. Dougie Mac do such an amazing job – for everyone – and that’s why I want to raise money. I'm taking part in the 10k Run because I want to show them just how much they are appreciated.”

Fundraising events like our 10K help fund the care, comfort and compassion that families like Leigh’s rely on every day.

As the 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence comes to a close today, it’s a reminder that awareness and action must continue all year round. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, and the workplace is often one of the few safe spaces where signs can be recognised.

Our Domestic Abuse & Violence Awareness Training helps organisations understand the forms of abuse, spot warning signs, and respond appropriately to support those at risk.

If your organisation wants to improve its approach to safeguarding and employee wellbeing, our training can help make a meaningful difference: https://tinyurl.com/99zh4vyy

It’s Grief Awareness Week, a time to recognise how deeply loss can affect our mental health, including in the workplace.

Grief can influence emotional wellbeing, anxiety levels, stress and day-to-day functioning in ways that aren’t always visible. Many people continue to carry their grief quietly while trying to keep up with normal work life.

Supporting grieving colleagues starts with compassion, patience and creating a workplace culture where people feel safe to talk, or safe to say nothing at all.

We believe understanding mental health at work includes understanding grief, which is why we focus on wellbeing awareness across everything we do: https://tinyurl.com/2zuxuay8

Every year, millions of people around the world are affected by modern slavery and human trafficking, often in ways that remain hidden from view, including in workplaces and supply chains.

On this International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, it’s a reminder that even small steps - like knowing the signs and understanding our responsibilities - can make a real difference.

Our Modern Slavery Awareness online course is designed to help organisations and employees recognise, prevent, and respond to modern slavery in their workplaces, contributing to safer and more ethical environments for everyone.

It’s Addiction Awareness Week, and many people are taking time to reflect on how drug and alcohol misuse affects individuals, families, and workplaces. For employers, understanding these issues is an important part of creating a supportive and safe environment for everyone.

Our Drug and Alcohol Awareness training looks at why people may turn to substances, the different types of drugs and their effects, and the ways misuse can impact health, safety, and performance at work. It also explains the law around drugs, alcohol, and smoking, and what organisations should include in a clear and effective Drug and Alcohol Policy.

The course includes real examples to help people think about the challenges colleagues may face, as well as information on risk assessments, drug testing, and promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace: https://tinyurl.com/a8a9fzuj

Addiction Awareness Week is a reminder that understanding and early support can make a significant difference. If your organisation wants to build awareness and strengthen its approach, our training provides practical, straightforward guidance for teams and managers.

This week is National Self-Care Week, and its 2025 focus is Mind & Body.

Self-care is not just an act of kindness to ourselves, it’s a commitment to long-term wellbeing. It can be something simple: a walk, quiet time, stretching, or reconnecting with friends.

Here are a few practical steps everyone can take:

*Take regular breaks to rest or reset

*Stay active - even gentle movement can help

*Nourish your body with balanced food and plenty of water

*Look out for your mental state and reach out when needed

*Keep your connections strong - meaningful conversation matters

But let’s not stop there. Self-care in the workplace isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s essential. When organisations support self-care, they foster healthier, more engaged teams.

If you’re a business leader or HR professional, our blog Top Tips for Creating a Mentally Healthy Workplace offers actionable advice to embed self-care into your company culture: https://tinyurl.com/pp6s7nh2

This week marks Transgender Awareness Week, a time to raise visibility and understanding of trans and non-binary people and their experiences.

According to Stonewall’s 2024 research, 39% of LGBTQ+ employees still feel the need to hide their identity at work, a reminder that inclusion and visibility remain as important as ever.

Our Trans and Non-Binary Awareness online course helps organisations and individuals develop a better understanding of gender identity, history, culture and allyship. By increasing awareness and confidence, we can all play a part in creating workplaces where everyone feels respected and able to be themselves: https://tinyurl.com/2az3m8bj

Trans and Non-Binary Awareness Training explores the culture and history of this community as well as their lived experiences and the challenges they face.
