What is hyperlocal monitoring and why is it so important to the future of air pollution reduction?
In this insight piece (link in the comments), air quality expert John Vinson explains.
"By collecting air quality data locally, it gives you the intelligence to identify sources and events that contribute to air pollution spikes, providing valuable data to inform street-level decisions and local air pollution improvement actions."
One example of this is in our deployment with Hammersmith & Fulham Council, which allowed us to identify the following events:
1. A frequent particulate matter event at 02:00 in the morning.
2. Effect of heating methods such as log burners and gas boilers during cold weather and low traffic during lockdown.
3. Effects on ozone and NO2 concentrations during rapid temperature changes.
4. Effect of introducing low traffic neighbourhood on air pollution.
