It’s so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of summer.

School term finishing, planning and packing for holidays and before you know it you’re knee deep in post-holiday laundry with hourly snack demands from your mini-me and you have no idea where you put your ear buds (which you desperately need for a moment of calm!). Sound familiar?

Prioritising time for your own self care can be really hard. I know because I’ve been there.

When your self-care routine is squeezed between dishwasher loads and consists of nothing more than a tepid glass of wine and a half hour nap on the sofa when you really ought to go to bed, perhaps it’s time to have a re-think.

Sadly I am not a fairy godmother and I cannot wave away the dirty dishes and piles of laundry, however I can encourage you to put yourself first, carve out some time for yourself and put some ice in your wine glass 😂

I find gamifying and giving myself rewards really help me and I’m hoping they will help you too. Give me a sticker chart and the promise of a gold star and suddenly any task seems more achievable.

She’s nearly here - August - the month of summer 🌞

What are you looking forward to this August? It’s my birthday this month, so I’m excited for cake 🤣

I’m also looking forward to spending time with friends and family, walks along the river and enjoying more fresh produce from the garden 🍅

🍦It’s National Ice Cream Day! 🍨

And because I am a big fan of both ice cream and completely unnecessary little facts, I thought we’d have a quick natter about why it’s celebrated.

National Ice Cream Day takes place on the third Sunday of July, during National Ice Cream Month. The tradition began in the United States in 1984, when President Ronald Reagan officially declared July a month to celebrate everyone’s favourite frozen treat, with the third Sunday set aside as National Ice Cream Day.

And honestly? I think that’s a pretty good reason to celebrate.

Because ice cream is about so much more than just a sweet treat on a hot day. It’s childhood memories, seaside trips, pudding after a Sunday dinner, sharing a tub on the sofa, trying a completely bonkers new flavour just because you can, and that very important moment of deciding whether you’re going to have one scoop or if today is a two scoop kind of day*.

*It’s always two scoops!

Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint choc chip, something covered in bits of biscuit… there’s an ice cream for everyone. 🍨

So today, I think we should all take a moment to celebrate the small joys. Grab yourself an ice cream and enjoy every single yummy mouthful.

I don’t know about you, but July always seems to go very quickly and I often run out of time. There’s a whole 31 days and still on 24th July I’ll be saying “where did July go?!” 😅

What are you looking forward to this July?
