Are safety professionals really using AI? We asked… and over 300 answered….
During our webinar with IOSH members and Safety Leaders, we asked: “How often are you using Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to get insight from your H&S data?”
Here’s what we found:
13.7% use it daily
19.6% use it weekly
16.5% use it monthly
But a striking 50.2% said “Not at all”
Our key insights
1. A clear majority are not engaging yet
Over half of respondents (50.2%) are not using LLMs at all for insight from their data. This highlights a major opportunity but also a gap in awareness, trust, or capability. It signals that although interest in AI is growing, real-world adoption in safety environments is still in its early stages.
2. Encouraging signs of early adoption
While still a minority, the 13.7% using AI daily and 19.6% weekly represent a solid 1-in-3 users actively integrating into their workflow. If you are an early adopter, you could be instrumental in leading industry-wide change, demonstrating practical benefits, and influencing peers.
3. Monthly users could be primed for more
The 16.5% using LLMs monthly are likely experimenting or using AI in specific scenarios. They form a valuable middle group that could be nudged toward more frequent usage with better tools, training, or success stories.
So, what does this mean for safety?
There’s huge potential for AI to help identify patterns, surface trends, and ultimately save lives but many teams aren’t there yet.
This isn’t about replacing people. It’s about giving professionals better tools and empowering them to make informed decisions, faster.
