"We're backed up."

Great.

But here's the question businesses don't always ask:

Could you actually get everything back?

And how long would it take?

A backup is only useful if it works when you need it.

If your server failed tomorrow morning, could your team be working again quickly?

Hours? A day? Several days?

Don't wait for something to go wrong before discovering the answer.

Backing up your data is important.

Knowing you can recover it is even more important.

What actually is "the cloud"? ☁️

It sounds complicated.

It really isn't.

When something is saved "in the cloud", instead of only being stored on the computer in front of you, it's stored securely on computers elsewhere and accessed using the internet.

That's why you can open the same emails, photos or files from your laptop, phone or tablet.

Think of it like this:

💻 Saved on your computer = it's stored there.

☁️ Saved in the cloud = you can access it over the internet.

The cloud isn't floating in the sky.

It's simply another computer somewhere else.

Women in male-dominated fields? We know two rather brilliant ones 💚

For Women's Equality Day, we wanted to give a shout-out to two of our own - Amie and Dee.

IT has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, but talent, knowledge and the ability to solve a problem have absolutely nothing to do with gender.

And these two prove it every day.

From supporting our schools and businesses to tackling the technical problems our clients throw at us, they're an important part of the Simply IT team - and we're very lucky to have them.

So today we're celebrating the women building careers, challenging stereotypes and showing the next generation that there's a place for them in technology too.

And, of course, especially celebrating our two 💚💙

Does Microsoft 365 back everything up?

Not quite.

Microsoft 365 does a great job of storing your emails and files online.

But storing something online isn't the same as having a separate backup.

Think of it like this:

☁️ Microsoft 365 is where your information lives.

💾 A backup is a separate copy kept somewhere else, just in case.

If something important is accidentally deleted, damaged or lost, having that separate copy gives you another way to get it back.

Stored isn't the same as backed up.

You get an urgent message request from your boss.

They're busy.

They need a payment made.

Now.

Maybe it's an email, or a WhatsApp message.

The problem is, it might not actually be them.

AI is making impersonation scams increasingly convincing - and much harder to spot at first glance.

So if you're unexpectedly asked to make a payment, change bank details or share sensitive information: Stop. Check. Verify.

Call the person on a number you already know.

Speak to them directly.

Confirm the request another way.

Because scams don't always look like scams anymore.

Sometimes they look completely genuine.

When costs are rising, every business looks for places to save money.

And IT can seem like an obvious one.

"Do we really need that backup?"

"Can we put off replacing that server?"

"Do we need all this security?"

Sometimes the answer genuinely is no.

But there's a difference between removing something you don't need and removing something that's quietly protecting your business.

Because fixing an IT disaster usually costs considerably more than preventing one.

Good IT support shouldn't be about selling you everything.

It should be about understanding what you actually need, what you don't, and where cutting costs could create a bigger one later.
