39% of cyber crime reports in the North East are now linked to consumer fraud.

That’s the shift.

Most modern attacks now rely on convincing emails, fake invoices, stolen logins, and catching someone at the wrong moment.

Our latest breakdown of North East UK Cyber Crime Statistics explores what businesses across the region are really facing in 2026.

A few things stood out:

🔹 Criminals increasingly target people, not infrastructure
🔹 Account compromise remains a major entry point
🔹 Smaller businesses are seen as easier targets

Which is unfortunate, because “Can you just do this quickly?” remains one of the UK’s most powerful cyber security bypass tools.

👉 “CompanyName2026!” is not fooling anyone
👉 Sticky notes are not a recognised cyber security framework
👉 If your password is your dog’s name followed by “123”... your dog may now own your bank account
